Magpie Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I got a box of SLR Regios a month or so back, and I'm in two minds about these. First one out the box was a very nice pleasurable smoke, then it's been hit miss after that with some being harsh and hard to smoke. Tonight tried another , absolutely delightful! Is it me , or the box I have, or is this this just normal. Would love to hear your experiences ?
shlomo Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Love the A. Not a huge fan of the DC. Never really had a bad Regios, but none that were incredible either. I find these pretty consistent usually and like to have a few in the humi at all times.
Cisco Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I've had similar experience as you from a 2013 box. I asked about the cigar's evolution and opened up a rather lengthy thread on "aging". The thread is easily found in the "the water hole" and is entitled "SLR Regios aging potential". There seems to be some information that the Regios is better fresh but can be aged, though the flavours seem to diminish with age. I am going to smoke mine faster than I initially planned but i'm also saving a few to see how they evolve.
tydra Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I had a wonderful experience with a box of 2003 Regios. Amazing everyday smoke I'd say, and good for just about any time of the day. Creamy, smooth, with a slight tinge of sweet spices.
EuroTrash Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I've only had a couple with mixed results. The first one immediately took me back to the resort lobby in cuba. I loved every second of it. It felt like a vacation without having to go anywhere. The second one was nothing great but not terrible. The cuban "twang" was not as present as with the first one. I would still gamble on a box of these.
ksblazer Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Like magpie I've had mixed results out of the same box. Too many good cigars in this size range to make me buy another box.
SethLG Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I am a big fan of the Saint Luis Rey brand. I think that the Regios and Serie A are the most consistent of the three, but the Double Corona can be just as enjoyable. Overall, I would pick up the Serie A over any size, but that does not mean the Regios is a bad smoke. I think all the cigars improve with age on them, but like you I have had consistency problems.
