Ladies and gents,

As we started to explain in the original RSVP thread at http://www.friendsof...howtopic=115002, we're having some charity auctions again this year at the 2013 Toronto MegaHerf III. So, with some changes this year, here's what is going on....

Firstly, there will be a Silent Auction (taking place from 1pm until about 6pm). This will be similar in format to previous years, with the exception that this will be taking place all afternoon, and wrapping up PRIOR to the Cuban dinner being served at 6:30 / 7pm. So, THIS part of the auctions will not run into the night past supper.

But also, we will be having a Live Auction, run by your master MC's, the Big Cohiba Kahuna, Art "Dirty" Sanchez, and Captain Cowboy, Tom "Big TMac" MacDowall. (Gents - I take no responsibility for these nicknames....blame Erin! LOL). Now, as we're going to have the Silent Auctions wrap up prior to dinner, this Live Auction will then be the dessert-time entertainment to take place right after supper from about 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm or so.

So, get in while you can on the Silent Auctions, and if you lose out on a much-wanted item, then you have the Live Auctions after supper to go-big-or-don't-go-home (sober at least) and to have a last chance to win on some premium items.

And yes, as requested, proxy bidding will be allowed if there are members on here who want to be able to bid on and potentially win an auction item, even if they're unable to attend. Therein is the meaning behind this whole thread. If you cannot be in attendance at the actual MegaHerf due to distance, time, or money constraints, YOU CAN STILL SUPPORT THE WORTHY CHARITY CAUSE if you wish. Find a friend or FOH buddy that's attending the event, and have them be your proxy bidder. This thread, with a description of mostly all item lots that will be in both the Silent and Live Auctions, is for that purpose - from today, there is exactly ONE WEEK to go until the event. So, browse the items on here, check out the starting bid prices and such, and then work out the details with your proxy bidder to have them try to win the item for you at the event. A note - as we're all tied up doing other stuff for the event, please do not request the MegaHerf team (Frank, Tom, Art, or myself) to do proxy bidding for you.

Also, for all those in attendance, we will have a wifi-enabled laptop to assist in processing PayPal or Interac e-mail money transfer payments. So, while the rules state that you must pay for your item promptly after the auctions are complete, you don't have to worry about having pockets full of cash at the event. Simply decide how much you're willing to spend / donate / bid, and go for it. Then, when the auctions are done, you can either pay in cash, or pay via debit or credit card through PayPal or Interac EMT to the Toronto MegaHerf e-mail account that we've now got set up. Seamless, easy, accountable, and secure.

Again, all proceeds of the FOH Toronto MegaHerf III's auctions will be going to the Nicaraguan Children's Feeding Mission to help disadvantaged children, run by Rob Schildt / "Freefallguy", and we thank all those who have donated items for this cause, especially our business / vendor sponsors.

So, the Auction Rules are as attached below, and please be sure to pay attention to any proxy bidding rules.

Also, following this post, there will be a post-by-post listing of the auction lots that will be in both the Silent and Live Auctions. Take a perusal through what's being offered, think things over during the next seven days, and then go from there.

Cheers all, happy bidding, and hope to see you at the MegaHerf! cigar.gif

MegaHerf Auction Rules:

  • Each silent auction item is assigned a specific and individual bid sheet.
  • Auctions to be started with a “Starting Bid / Initial Reserve Bid”.
  • To bid on an item, write your bid on the next blank line, with your current bid.
  • Bid increments to be in $1 minimums.
  • You can bid as much or as high as you want – remember, this is for a worthy charity cause.
  • Your bid is a commitment – please keep it.
  • Bids can be placed by proxy bidders on other FOHers’ behalves.
  • Bidders (including proxy bidders on behalf of someone else) must be present at the auction end, and pay promptly, to claim their item. If not, your bid may be cancelled by the MegaHerf Organizing Team, and the winning bid may be announced to the next highest bidder.
  • “Last call” will be announced for all auctions at 6 pm, for a ½ hour warning until bidding is closed at 6:30 pm sharp. Announcement of winners will then be at 8pm, followed by a LIVE auction for the items not in the silent auction.
  • Once the winning bidder is announced, you must pay the organizing team, and may pick up your item at your discretion.
  • Once you pay for and pick up your won item, please sign off on the bid sheet, to acknowledge the receipt of your item(s).
  • Out of respect for our hosts’ business, any alcoholic items won from the auction are not to be opened and/or consumed while at the event venue.

Lot # 1 – an original cigar-themed “Beach Nudies” artwork (from Ute / “perla”), est. value: $150. This is made from a Le Hoyo des Dieux cigar box, and as for further particulars from Perla: “There is a stamp (white, right corner) inside with a quotation from Friedrich Schiller (German poet): ‘The Art is the daughter of freedom.’ Flowers are flowers. The ships are made of stamps, as well. Another stamp with a double-decker [tri-plane] on it is just a hint because the box was flying to Canada. The hand painted figurines are from Mauritius, painted for a German company.” Starting bid is $50.

Lot # 24 – from Xikar, a wonderful prize pack courtesy of Kaitlyn Troske in sales & service, Chris Geisert, VP of Marketing, and Kurt Van Keppel, President & original Co-designer. This gift pack contains a Xikar 5-count travel humidor (item # 205XI), a titanium Xi1 cutter (# 100TI), and a black Executive Lighter (#502BK), as well as a Xikar mesh “trucker’s hat” signed by Kurt Van Keppel. A very cool Xikar set to get you all set up, with a full retail value of over $132 USD (let alone shipping).

post-6965-0-04080200-1376158194_thumb.jp

Most of you know how much of a Xikar madman I am for their cutters – my favourite is the new Xi3 Mayan 3D one, for its heft and aesthetic appeal (just don’t tell my wife about its cost, let along added onto the 5 or 6 other Xikar Xi’s I have!) And, as many of you have asked me about, the Xikar digital rectangular hygrometer with adjustable calibration (item # 833XI) is the go-to digital hygrometer that myself and a number of others use in our large long-term coolerdors. I trust Xikar products, have used their warranty service, and treasure the effectiveness of their customer service. They’re well designed products, both in aesthetics and ease-of-use, and to me anyways, good accoutrements add to the overall pleasureful experience of a good cigar.

Again, if you don’t get a chance to bid and win on this particular prize pack from Xikar, please visit their webpage at www.Xikar.com, and support their different vendors and distributors.

Starting bid of $50.

Lot # 25 – now, this lot is a nice one. From the La Casa Del Habano store in Toronto, we have a gorgeous desktop humidor. Isabel there was immensely helpful with us in putting together some of the aspects of this MegaHerf, with regards to some of the tangible items for everyone’s event “swag bags” and such. They also donated multiple cutters and torch lighters that are part of some other lots, as well as various event prizes. With LCDH Toronto (you can e-mail them at [email protected] for any cigar assistance you may need!), we’re grateful for their support of this charity event, and even more so for their further donation with this humidor.

This humidor is a beautiful two-toned inlay desktop humidor. It’s beautiful wood craftsmanship, and has the following dimensions – for the exterior, it’s 34cm long x 10cm tall x 27cm deep; on the interior, it’s 29-1/2cm long x 7cm tall x 23cm deep. The grid layout to the interior wood is AWESOME – one of the best I’ve seen on a nice desktop humidor. It’ll allow for excellent air movement around all your cigars.

Retail price on this humidor (from an undisclosed manufacturer) is approx. $499 CDN. A beautiful piece – bid well, ladies and gents! Starting bid is $100.

Lot # 26 – for the next few lots, we have some awesome ashtrays from Stinky Cigar ashtrays. This is courtesy of both Marilyn Florez at Quality Importers (distributors of Stinky Cigar ashtrays, as well as other cigar-related products – visit them at www.qualityimporters.com), and from Stinky himself (www.stinkycigar.com) down in hot ol’ Las Vegas...

Again, please be sure to support them and their vendors if you don’t win one of the following lots.

This lot anyways is for a tall chocolate brown Stinky Cigar ashtray, as well as a refillable torch lighter and a Romeo y Julieta-branded cigar cutter from LCDH Toronto.

This new “smaller-taller” Stinky Cigar ashtray is 6½ inches tall by 7 inches in diameter. However, the bowl holds the same volume as the original Stinky Cigar Ashtray. The useable surface of all the cigar stirrups are still polished stainless steel. The bowl and base are made of malleable iron with a hot-electrostatic applied powder coated factory finish.

Starting bid on this lot is $20. Good luck!

Lot # 27 – again, from Quality Importers (www.qualityimporters.com), and from Stinky Cigar ashtrays (www.stinkycigar.com), we have another ashtray combo.

This lot (we’ll call it the “Art special”) is for a tall stainless steel Stinky Cigar ashtray, as well as a refillable torch lighter and a Cohiba-branded cigar cutter from LCDH Toronto. This Stinky Cigar ashtray is 6½ inches tall by 7 inches in diameter, with the bowl holds the same volume as the original Stinky Cigar Ashtray, and this version is solid stainless steel polished to a shiny finish.

Starting bid on this lot is $21 – due to the extra action it’s due to get from Art!

Lot # 28 – from Quality Importers (www.qualityimporters.com), and from Stinky Cigar ashtrays (www.stinkycigar.com), we have another ashtray combo.

This lot has my favourite of the new Stinky Cigar ashtrays. This is a unique polished Copper Plated version of the the Original 4-stirrup Stinky Cigar ashtray. The copper plating is applied over highly polished solid stainless steel. The top surface of the 4-stirrups are un-plated polished solid stainless steel.

This lot includes the polished copper ashtray, as well as a refillable torch lighter and a Partagas-branded cigar cutter from LCDH Toronto. Starting bid on this lot is $20.

Lot # 29 – from Quality Importers (www.qualityimporters.com), and from Stinky Cigar ashtrays (www.stinkycigar.com), we have the last ashtray combo.

This lot has the special order “Five-Star Custom” version. Made right in Las Vegas by Stinky, these were from adding on 4 more stirrups onto the stainless steel “Antisocial” version. A rarer version of these Stinky Cigar ashtrays, and very cool looking. This lot includes the Five-Star Custom, as well as a refillable torch lighter and a Montecristo-branded cigar cutter from LCDH Toronto. Starting bid on this lot is $20.

Lot # 31for the LIVE AUCTION ONLY (not a silent auction item). Now, we’re getting near the end of the lots – so this is definitely a case of “last but not least”. Of course, with this being primarily an FOH event, and with the new C.U.N.T.C.A. stuff going on, El Presidente and the Czar’s team have generously donated a number of items. Aside from goodies for the event “swag bags” and those participants, Rob’s donated a number of cigar boxes to go towards the auctions. I’ve mentioned some of the other retailer/distributor help that we’ve received from other companies. However, as much as it sometimes goes unsaid, we need to say it – events such as the Toronto MegaHerfs would not be possible without the additional support of Rob, the Czar’s team, and the FOH community as a whole (whom we have Rob to thank for the overall venture). Yes, it’s all tied to a business of selling cigars (which Rob’s picks are amazing!), but we care about this forum and community due to Rob’s guiding principles and the essential thought that it’s not just about cigars – it’s about community, brotherhood, and care for your fellow man (or woman!) Rob has been instrumental in helping us with donation commitments and the like right from the planning-starts with each of these events – his support has always been essential, unwavering, and extremely generous.

Rob, thanks for your continued support of this event, and for the guiding generosity that helps the push for these charity auctions towards Rob Schildt’s Nicaraguan Children’s Feeding Mission.

So, with that…

This lot is for the LIVE AUCTION ONLY (not a silent auction item). This is for an H. Upmann travel-case robustos, in a 5-cigar leather travel case. Many of you know and love this item. Bid accordingly. Last value that I remember was on a LFTH back at the start of the year for $199. Starting bid of $90.
