Overproof Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Unfortunately I don't have anyone other than the FOH users to share this with as the MRS aint really feeling the the smell and cost of the new 'Hobby'....Anyhow, her and my friends loss I nearly pissed myself with excitment upon the arrival of my 1st humidor in the mail this morning. Forgot to take some pics with the phone before I left for work this morning but here's a pic from the web. http://humidorpro.com/the-palacio-humidor.html I've got some of the 50/50 soluting that came with it in a dish at the bottom, solution in the humidifier and an additional digital guage to get a more accurate reading for the 'Breaking In' process. Could someone suggest if the humidifier that these humidors come with are adequite? It kind of looks like the one below. I hear alot about these Boveda packs and pondering if should I replace it with some of these due to my location? I live in Queensland, Australia which as many know gets muggy and humid as hell in mid summer. Humidification Now I can see the good people at Czars and slowly stock this sexy looking thing up! perhaps even buy my first box after my taste journey finds what it so regulary desires. I've only been able to buy a couple of cigars at a time, keeping them tupaware containers! Any advise or comments would be greatly appreciated. I'm hope someone here will know how much a purchase like this means. Cheers!
vanbellc Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 My only advice is get ready to buy another as those sticks seem to multiply and you'll quickly run out of space!

bones Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Mate if you use the boveda packs you really can't go wrong. It's pretty much throw in a few and forget. I've got four 69% packs in a 100ct humi. Works well with Brisbane's weather in summer. The only other thing I do is keep the humi in the bottom of the wardrobe, temps there seem to stay fairly constant.

Home many for a 150 cout box would you suggest?
pjansen Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 You could always go with humidity beads. They are very reliable and regulate the humidity to what they are set for.

Overproof Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 Hi, I just wanted to update this post. I now have 5, 69% Boveda packs in my 150ct (It's more like 100) humidor. I've had them in since Monday, and it doesn't seem to be getting any higher than 20-22c with a RH of 62%. Is this too dry, should should chuck one more pack in? Last thing I want is a wet cigar. I had a plugged one last week but the rest have been OK, must have just been a one off..I hope

I *TRY* to keep mine at 63-63, so you're golden in my eyes... some people like it dryer still, others love 70+... I believe that anything less that 60 isn't good for long-long term, but may be wrong... and anything >75ish (with high temps) may cause dormant tobacco beetles- if there are some in your sticks- to hatch.

Cheers for the reply Ryan. Brisbane gets pretty muggy mid summer so I guess the slightly lower RH would be better. Hopefuly I can keep it like that. It's in the coolest part of the house. I dont have a box of anything...yet so I shouldnt have to worry about a longterm storage. I generally smoke what I have with a month or so of getting them..I'm too fn antsy!
Hoshneer Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Haha! I swear my smokes pro-create quickly when I leave alone to long. You better get another just to be safe. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Overproof Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 After a few different humidification methods I've settled with 70%RH beads plus a boveda pack. My RH has been sitting perfectly at 63-65% RH however the recent spike in the Queensland weather has seen the inside temp at around the 25-27 C (75-77FH) Is the temperature very important and will this high heat perhaps hatch beetles??
Overproof Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 It's in pretty much the coolest place in the house. The bottom of my built in cupboard.
Overproof Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 25-27C is quite high. Is there no AC at home? We have AC but I'm out at work all day. Can't really afford to have it running all day : ( Perhaps I could move it to another part of the house which is out of the built in. It might be that its not getting enough air flow. The humidity inside the box seems to be pretty spot on..I have not Idea on what to do. Thanks for your reply.
