bobsled Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Off to the Outer Banks town of Corolla, NC tonight with family and good friends for a week of debauchery. It starts with a 10 hour road trip. Packed a few stogies for the trip! Any recommendations for fishing, eateries or local smoke shops??
kevn Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Looks like you have a nice vacation lined up for yourself. The bagel place (Lighthouse?) and Philly Steak sub shop are quite good. Enjoy!
Loki Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 You may want to stop here http://www.weepingradish.com/ . Good beer and outdoor seating for smoking. I stay in Kill Devil Hillswhen in NC.
al321 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 If you are in the northern part of OBX, try Blue Point restaurant. Great food and wine!
duwan Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I vacation every year on the Outer Banks. I was just there during the week of July 4. I have never stayed up on Bodie Island, so I can't help you much on fishing guides up there. I normally stay on Hatteras Island in Rodanthe. I will say if you want to hire a guide, you can save yourself a few hundred bucks if you are willing to travel a little south. Most vacationers stay up on the northern island, and the prices reflect this. The farther south you go, the cheaper the prices are. I always use a guide out of Hatteras village. Some years I do off shore charters and other years I will do inshore fishing. Either type of fishing will be very rewarding. I have never been on a fishing trip, offshore or inshore, where I did not catch limits. This year I did the inshore thing. We spent the morning catching our limit of speckled trout, gray trout, and flounder. We then used the rest of the trip hunting trophy red drum. I caught 3, the largest being 45 inches and 38 lbs. Last year, I went offshore. We caught 77 dolphin and a couple wahoo. So, you see either type of fishing is wonderful. If you should decide to travel south to fish, all of the guides out of Hatteras are great and will put you on the fish. I do have a couple I use and would recommend. Offshore-- Brian Patteson, Stormy Petrel II, Hatteras Landing Marina, phone-252-473-9163. Inshore-- Doug Martin, Hallelujah Charters, Teachs Lair Marina, phone-252-995-5643. These marinas are right beside each other in Hatteras Village. If you want to go offshore, but don't have enough people to charter an entire trip, you can contact either marina and ask to go on a make-up charter. They will hook you up with other folks who don't have enough people and split the price equally among everyone. Hope this helps ya some. But whatever you decide, have a great trip. Hope ya catch a boatload, just leave a few for me to catch next year.
