What is going on at Trinidad. I purchased some that were dark and oily, and the next ones were lighter with hints of green in the wrapper. It didn't matter as to date, in fact in one case the younger ones were darker and richer. They are all Trinidads - no doubt about that, but I was surprised to see such inconsistency in a premium brand. (I did not purchase these from Cigar Zar, so maybe that was the first problem.)

IMO color is no indication of taste. I've had dark oily wrappers taste like crap and light spotty ones that would knock your socks off.

People put waaaaay too much stock in wrapper appearance.

Welcome Tom! Great to see you on this board and you will be a fine addition to the forum :ok:

For fellow members, Tom is one of the good guys of the cigar world ;-)

The trinidad Reyes suffer from some of the same problems in wrapper consistency as the Cohiba Siglo 1. I don't know why except to assume that Habanos s.a cares a little more for higher yielding (profit) cigars in the respective esteemed ranges.

I am a fan of the Reyes and am not overly fussed as to wrapper look as long as it has a sheen of some sort. The only ones I shy away from are the rare but sometimes seen rough dry shark skin abrasive wrappers for which I do not care for.

For the most part, I have seen uniformity within the Trinidad and Cohiba brands - Light/medium Colorado wrappers.

Although I do have 3 boxes of Partagas SP2's that differ greatly - one dark as the night, the next a tad lighter, and the last box is so pale they look like they were commisioned for Michael Jackson.;-)

I wouldn't worry unless the inconsistency was within the same box.

...and in terms of flavour now, the light ones kick the pants off the others

I have never encountered this in the Reyes (yet).

But.. I have in the VR Famoso. (not really dry though)

Matter of fact, I really liked that box.:-D

There are tons of shades in wrapper. I dont have any color preference but I do welcome the green spots on them. I believe they are the older corrojo wrappers. The gree is a genetic maker on cuban tobacco. I know a guy that specifically ask for them. Whenever he sees the green he goes crazy.

No doubt there are many wrapper shades. I wouldn't even expect every Trinidad to have the same color wrapper unless they were in the same box. We are talking about a natural product here
