Cohiba Stevie Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Check this new kickstarter project: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/supermechanical/twine-listen-to-your-world-talk-to-the-internet?ref=discover_pop Its called the twine, and Basically its a little device that can txt you or email you when changes are made to whatever it's hooked up to. It has internal temp sensor and accelerometer, so I plan to fix one on the inside of my humidor cabinet door, it will alert me via txt or email if the temperature goes over a set point, allowing me to track temperature remotely, it will also give me periodic temp updates on current temps as often as I please and not just when it goes over a set point. The reason I will be using this on the door of my cabinet is because the twine also has an accelerometer in it (just like the iPhone) so I can be alerted if my cabinet door is opened while I'm out of the house. The unit also has the capability to add external sensors without the need for coding, so I'm pretty sure getting a simple hygrometer to connect to this will be child's play for anybody that knows anything about electronics. This basically means that this unit at some point should give you the ability to monitor your humidors temp, humidity and security all via your smartphone. I will be investing.... Hope you guys like it.
Cohiba Stevie Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Just realised another excellent use for it. When you pledge $125 you also get a calibratable moisture sensor, which means it could be placed in your bead tray or active humidification device and the twine could alert you via txt that your device needs refilling with ditpstilled water! The potential for this device I think is amazing, not just for humidors but for other applications too.
Figaro Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Very good project/idea. I like it. It reminds me of a similar tracking method made (recently) by Gerber humidors. It's essentially an iPhone app that reads their humidors' data. However, it seems "complicated" as it requires a link to the home system control via internet and only works with their humidors. Your project appears to be a lot simpler and can work with pretty much anything. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ihumidor/id441196386?mt=8
