BobLobLaw Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Hey Guys, So I am traveling to Tulum, Mexico for my wedding next weekend. I will be there from Tuesday Nov 1 through Wed Nov 8. I know there is an LCDH in Cancun (which we fly into) and one at Playa del Carmen (which we drive by on the way to Tulum). I am bringing my own cigars to smoke, but figure I should always take the chance to check out any LCDH whenever I can right? Never know what you might find and it is always awesome to see all the boxes of cc. Saw IcedCanuck's recent thread and reviews that the Playa Del Carmen LCDH is not that good anymore. Anyone else been to either recently have any opinions? All information helps! Oh and I will PM Rushman as well since that came out of the last inquiry. Also, here is my lineup of cigars. I regularly only smoked every other week or so allocating one per day is good for me. I mixed it up between rare cigars that i have never smoked and some of my all time favorites. I am hoping to keep some short notes of each smoke with iphone pics which I will post upon my return. Figure by posting this now I will be more inclined to follow through! 1) H. Upmann Magnum 46 - UGT ABR 2007 - One of my first boxes purchased from Czar, have not revisited this cigar in a few years and in the meantime bought a box of 2003 mag 46's that were not so good. Looking forward to seeing where this cigar currently is. 2) Partagas Lonsdale - CUE SEP 2003 - I was fortunate enough to get a cabinet of these. One of my favorite cigars. 3) Bolivar Petite Corona - POS MAY 2007 - Another Czar purchase and my epiphany cigar. Magical summer night 3 years ago when the Boli PC was amazing. That was the start of my love of smaller ring gauge cigars which is still present until today. I have been hoarding the rest of the box since then. 4) Diplomaticos #4 - LPE SEP 2002 - Great PC, last one I had was so full of cream and graham cracker. Love this size. 5) Partagas SD4 - 2006ish - Oldest PSd4 that I will ever had tried. 6) Cohiba Behike 52 - LBT MAR 10 7) Unbanded Montecristo Gran Reserva - Interested to see what this cigar is about, I only recently had a great Monte #2 and realize what all the fuss is about. High expectations for this. 8) Dunhill Mojito - 1980's - The only cigar in my humidor of this caliber. Very high expectations and excited to finally have the occasion to smoke it. 9) Pre Embargo Partagas Dunhill Selection Suprema No. 281 - Just got this from a good friend. He stumbled on a box and neither of us can find ANY information about it. Very small panatella size. Honored he would gift me one and figure no better time then this trip to burn it. Thanks in advance for any advice/help!
kevinfj Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Alright. Your post just gave me a headache. DO NOT go to the LCDH in Playa. Go to the one in Cancun.....and bring your money or credit card. Great place. Super expensive. Grab the cigars you want and a beer or mojito and sit outside on the deck and enjoy. Hopefully David will be there. FJ
Rushman Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Doesn't FOH member Rushman (Drew) run the one in PDC? May want to give hime a shout. What is an unbanded Montecristo Gran Reserva? Why is it unbanded? Have fun and congrats on the nuptials. Maybe splurge and try one of the new Dantes? Not "the" one as in LCDH. Ido have a shop in PDC though.
BobLobLaw Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Thanks for the quick responses! Looks like I am going to head over to Rushman's shop in Playa Del Carmen on the way down to Tulum and then possibly check out the Cancun LCDH the day before leaving Mexico. As for the Monte Gran Reserva. Long story short is they were obtained from a high up employee at a factory in Cuba. Supposedly the exact cigars, but no bands. The person I got them from is a personal friend both within and outside of the cigar world. He smoked one and said it was very good. That said, I am smart enough to know it is the quintessential fake cigar story about a friend of a friend and a cuban factory employee. So I will smoke it with a grain of salt and see what I think. I have another to later compare when I get a "real" MGR. Also got two unbanded Behike 56 from the same place and a friend and I are going to compare them with some Behikes he just ordered sometime later this month.
BobLobLaw Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Have fun and congrats on the nuptials. Maybe splurge and try one of the new Dantes? Thank you sir. Actually the Dantes is the exact cigar I was thinking of trying down there. I am sort of hoping that I can convince my fiance that a box of the Dantes is perfect for me to have as an anniversary cigar since it will be very representative of both the year and location where we got married. Price tag may scare her off though!
Rushman Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 So far the price tag has kept me from the dantes. My brother in law has a box, and although I'm sure the price would exceed my desire, each time I ask be says it's not for sale. Great idea for an anniversary stick though. I'm lucky. I was also married down here, but my anniversary stick is accessible and economical: my brother in law owns a rolling factory and produces IMHO the best "local roll" I've had. Anyway, congrats on the pending nuptials and for passing the gauntlet that is getting papers straight so you can marry in Mexico. See ya next week.
