Well actually the Philly suburbs, but I digress. I just wanted to say hello to all the members here.

Over the last year or two I've gone from the occasional cigar to more of a steady interest. Actually, when I was in the military I smoked H. Upmann's fairly regularly but that was 10 years ago. Being Cuban people always have asked me if I like Cubans and I've always told them I found them too harsh. But as with anything the older I get my tastes have become more refined. While I'm not sure I'm ready for a full bodied smoke just yet I still would like to find out more.

So here I am looking to learn as much as I can. Looking forward to being schooled by the masters.

Welcome to the forums Joey!

The guys and gals here are all great people. You found a really great place to discuss and learn more about Habanos. I find it interesting that you find Cubans to be very full bodied. I am fascinated by how each people experience taste differently. IMHO, I find cubans to actually be much milder in body than non-cubans and most other cigar in general. Or maybe it is just that they have such great balance that my palate experiences them as being milder. But then again, thats just how my palate perceives them. Everyone has their own palate, as well as opinions.

Dive right into the forum threads, and spend some time on the shout-box chat. There really is a sense of cigar fraternity on this forum. You will really enjoy it.

Warm Regards & Welcome from Chicago,

Thanks Mike. And as far as me thinking Cubans are too strong, I could be and probably am way off base. I only have one experience to base it off of which is clearly not a good way of forming an opinion. But back in the 90's when I was being shipped off to Iraq I was given a box of Siglo VI's. Up until then I lived on a steady diet of mild H. Upmann robustos. The two are light years apart and I think my palate just went into shock. And being 21 years old (dumb)I made a snap judgement because I was 21 and knew everything... And it isn't until now that I'm getting back into the "hobby" that I'm rethinking everything that I thought I knew.

So I'm a blank slate at this point. I do know I've quickly tired of Maduros and smoking crap from central America that are the width of a baseball bat. I'd really like to get my hands on a few Cubans so that I can find out what cigar suits my tastes the best before pulling the trigger on a whole box. From what Ive read I'm thinking a good start would be the HDM epicure no 2 or a Bolivar petite corona.
