Hello everyone, new here to the site. I have been enjoying cigars for a few years now. mostly NC's but the occassional CC when I take trip out of the states. It Has become quite an obsession now that I have been able to find such a great site like cigar czars. I know that the box codes are important for determining authenticity and what factory it was manufactured and year at but I have read several times where a member has talked about a good cigar they have smoked and other members have asked for the codes. Why are the codes so important besides the above mentioned reason's. Is it so others can try and find HQ cigars based on the codes that people have reviewed the smokes for. Any insight would be great. Thanks for allowing me to post

If I may add, something to keep in mind is that the date code shows when the cigars were boxed - not rolled. There are sometomes trends which

might make dates a useful point of reference. For example, on a number of occasions, I've read where members have felt a particular cigar might

be "better" early in a run for a particular year (let's say Jan - April) versus the same cigar produced later in the same year (let's say Aug - November).

Not always the case, but something to keep in the back of your mind, I guess.

The factory codes are practically meaningless these days. The dates are important only as a general reference.

Ever since I have been on the forums, there has been a bit of controversy over the box date. Some say the boxes are stamped when filled; others (RyJ7x47, e.g.) say the boxes are stamped when they are shipped from the factory. Does anyone here know difinitively?
