khomeinist Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I have seen two films recently that should enjoy wide popularity. They are both a bit 'dark' so if that is not your cuppa, ignore my recommendation. 1. Black Death. Excellent period drama. If you like 'Game of Thrones' you will need to seek this out. This film explores the moral ambiguity found in Christian reactions to the Great Plague during the 15th Century. Very powerful. 2. 13 Assasins. A samurai film from Takashi Miike. This is as good as 'Audition' in my book. A period Japanese film with a slight nod to modern graphic sensibilities. Miike displays a remarkable restraint from the excessive irony that plagues films by the Tarrantino types. Check it out. Quite violent but the final battle is really something amazing.
lemmycaution Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Thanks, I'm really lookin forward to 13 Assassins. I love a good Samurai film. I'm sure Miike makes a good one.
khomeinist Posted May 26, 2011 Author Posted May 26, 2011 Did you catch 13 Assasins yet? I just love the final scene. Watched it a second time last week. Nice avatar btw. Quite possibly my favorite film.
