sloth Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Rubber could quite possibly be one of the best April Fools Jokes in film format. Of course they also announced a PG-13 version of The King's Speech to replace all of the original rated R versions in theaters. I find that more annoying than a lighter rigged to shock you if you try to light it. I decided to just go ahead and start April 1st right and watch it at a midnight showing. Here is a random critics review! "We have an early contender for the worst film of 2011. Here is a film so irrefutably insipid that no self-respecting critic could call it anything more than a glorified student film. I use the term "glorified" lightly. Here's the set-up. There's a tire that rolls along of its own invisible freewill, and kills people. That's it. There's nothing more to the film than that. Now you can skip this unholy piece of dog ****, go see a mediocre movie, and feel really good about it. I saw "Rubber" at a press screening, and I still wanted my money back. Audiences should be reimbursed for the precious time they waste on this cinematic ****. "Rubber" makes "Battlefield Earth" seem interesting by comparison. Writer/director Quentin Dupieux is due for early retirement from filmmaking. This film sucks!" I will add that it does have 52% good reviews on rotten tomatoes. But who gives a crap. My favorite Wes Anderson movie is The Life Aquatic and it is the only rotten Wes Anderson movie on rottentomatoes.com. Right now, if you already plan to see this movie, please do not real anymore. I don't think there are any spoilers, but I think it is best to know as little as possible to enjoy this movie. So, anyway what did I think of the film? I loved it! Acting and what not, yeah... not the greatest, but there are some shots in the movie that really shows some care in the filming of this movie. There are movies that I like that I would call a bad movie. Because of the camera work I don't think it is fair to call this a bad movie. Tell ya what, watch this movie and then watch Feast (2006)... or any Sci-fi movie made for TV for that matter. You will understand what I mean. Also believe it or not there is more to this movie than just a rubber tire killing people. The movie is directed by Quentin Dupieux, who is a French Disc Jockey. Never mind he is a DJ, he's French! With a "X" in his name and everything! So, you got to expect some Godard-like social commentary. The movie breaks down the conventions of modern (Hollywood) film making and in the process makes fun of the audience (Americans) for being easily entertained by weak plots and explosions (They're making a Transformers 3 and even Michael Bay said Transformers 2 was a bad movie!) So would I recommend this movie? If you are easy going and not high strung... go for it. If you are the type who thinks their time is worth a gold brick every minute, eh it may not be for you. (But it is only 79 minutes long.) If you think your time is worth a gold brick, but you have already seen Battle: Los Angeles... well, then you deserve to be strapped down and forced to watch this movie!

sloth Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 The movie had strangely jumped 12 percentage points over the weekend making it fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. That kind of surprised me. Like I said it's short enough to give it a shot.
sloth Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 If the movie is as good as the trailer, I might want to see it. I can think of a worse premise. I will say that there is an element very important to the movie that is completely hidden in the trailer.
