snickers99 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I don't know with certainty but would guess that letters written, calls made, and other communications helped deflate enthusiasm for this bill. That's how the game is played in the United States in 2011. As the bulletin suggests we can never rest because the opposition never rests. The nitpickers, busybodies, and control freaks are still in place, convinced of their own superior judgement, and bursting with self righteousness. Keep your nose to the wind, mates. Act when your liberty is threatened.
jjp4 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Some good newsCalifornia Smokimg Ban Good news indeed--but only for the short term. Legislators feint before they jab with these sort of nanny-state inducements. The bill puts the idea in peoples' minds and create a murmur in the public sphere, even if it doesn't make it to the floor. I expect the anti-smoking lobbies to grab the theme and start rallying for public support. They've had a lot of success by claiming these measures are necessary to protect innocent people from smoke in the workplace. We'll see this bill again.
