edameff Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I know how popular the Monte Open series is with all of us on this forum... but when I was in the LCDH in Cancun I found a box with an amazingly dark wrapper. The owner said he had never seen a wrapper this dark on the Open series and I just wanted to show you how much variation can happen in a wrapper.
brian1 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Interesting, they look likes fakes too me. Very poor wrapper quality and some of those tapers look very suspect. Did you really get these in a LCDH? I know how popular the Monte Open series is with all of us on this forum... but when I was in the LCDH in Cancun I found a box with an amazingly dark wrapper. edameff Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 I have seen fakes many times,(unfortunately), I don't think these are fake. If a LCDH is selling fake boxes, then we all have big troubles ahead. I will smoke one of these in the next day or two and let you know how they taste. I have had several "Open" series and they are relatively distinctive in their profile. Sorry I will repost the photo, looks like I lost it in an edit.
El Presidente Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 They normally wouldn't waste a wrapper like that on the Monte Opens
CanuckSARTech Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 They normally wouldn't waste a wrapper like that on the Monte Opens Wow, I agree completely. Those are damn near maduro-looking wrappers. Doc, is this box yours? If so, what's the box code? I'm interested to know when these were put together. If that's the color of the wrapper that they're using on even the Monte Opens, then either one of two things is happening. Either they're EXTREMELY ratcheting up the quality level for these Monte Opens to try to gain a larger customer base for these, and be able to say "phooey" to all who have derided the Open line from the get-go. Or, the quality level of all of the wrapper leaf that they're getting to is just so absolutely good, with such a plethora of maduro-level darkness and oils to them, that they have so much of a bounty of such quality wrapper that they're able to use it on EVERYTHING. If the latter is the case, and if Doc lets us know what the box code is, then I'm anxiously awaiting what the Monte 2's and 4's are going to look like over the coming months then.

RAS AGO 09 is the box code, PM me your address and I will send you a stick, then you can post your thoughts.
CanuckSARTech Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 RAS AGO 09 is the box code, PM me your address and I will send you a stick, then you can post your thoughts. LOL. I don't know if I want to voluntarily submit to an Open! But, I'll bite. Trade you for some of Czar's HQ Monte 2's, for comparison's sake. Sending PM....
CanuckSARTech Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Wow, just had another thought on this. If the box code is RAS, from August 2009 - the box of just absolutely phenomenal Monte 4's that I got from Czar's, one box of HQ's and one box of PSP's, they were both Oct 2009 RAS. Is it just possible that whatever factory this RAS is/was, that for a stretch of a couple months, did they just get some absolutely oil-laden and beautifully dark wrapper leaves to use on their Montecristo products? The code has got me curious about this a bit.

Maybe they had finished their quota of monte 2/4 for the day, week, month and had surplus wrappers so used them on the Opens so they didnt go to waste???
