adic88 Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Try this at home. I did, its an eye opener. I received a box of MGEs recently. Upon arrival, they felt strangely light in the hand (as in lightweight). I've held thousands of cigars in my hands, so i picked up the light weight immediately. There was also a slight sponginess to the cigar, almost as though underfilled. To confirm, i took out one of those micro weighing machines (the one my wife uses for baking cakes and weighing flours/sugars) and weighed a single cigar from the box. I recorded it down. Then chucked the whole box into the humidor chiller and let it rest. Several weeks later, i took the box out, and re-weighed the same cigar. Guess what i discovered? The cigar was much heavier now. Even without the scale, i could tell that the cigar weighed much heavier in the hand, and all the spongy spots earlier were replaced by much firmer surfaces. The extra weight is the humidity that it has absorbed since arrival? I believe so. Interesting that a significant heft and weight of the cigar is actually water.

Would you please share your numbers? As an engineer I'm curious as to the percentage increase in weight by mass.
adic88 Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 I'll go home and check later, but it was a larger than expected difference. And i think it made the world of a difference in the cigar. If i had smoked the MGE ROTT, i would have complained about a loose draw or fast burning tobacco. As it worked out, the cigar was fantastic last night, writing a review of it right now.
