Colt45 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Based on my enjoyment of "Fringe Brands", I would probably love them. Filthy bastard
CanuckSARTech Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Lol. Please tell me that you are not referring to Ramon Allones, Por Larranaga, La Gloria Cubana, or Diplomaticos with that bold statement! None of those, don't worry!!! I strongly disagree with Nutty's statement regarding lesser produced cigars. I actually believe in the contrary....No offense Nut... we just strongly disagree here! -Piggy Grrrrr. None taken. Just stirring up the trouble, Piggy! Needed to wake you up! And obviously no offense taken. As the saying goes, everyone's tastes are different and varied, as numerous as people have arseholes (and I definitely am one!!!) I also am not keen on the "lesser brands are filth" line. I must admit I didn't really read the part about the so called "filthy lesser brands". My favourite Marca at the moment is LGC. Lately I've really enjoyed the milder profile, and I think these are very under-rated. I'd like to know just which Marca's he's thinking of? I must say that a Monte 4 is definitley NOT a much more interesting cigar. Don't think I'd ever buy a box of Monte 4's while I can get Dip 4's which are simply fantastic. "duds than studs"??? I've almost finished my first of three boxes of PL Montecarlo's, not a problem cigar in the lot! Being a "Long & Skinny" often the problem can be in rolling such a thin cigar (these were originally machine made I think), but these & the LGC's etc have been almost perfect. I'm also going to get some singles of RG vitola's so I can see what they should be like. Based on my enjoyment of "Fringe Brands", I would probably love them. Please CST, can you expand on your statement, as a lot of us don't agree and would probably like to know why you think so called "Fringe Brands" are "filth". No worries fellas. I know I made one hell of a generalization there. And, I know that there are definitely diamonds in the rough all over. And, even if I don't particularly like a vitola or marca, doesn't mean that there aren't those out there who really really do - there's a reason why they're made and therefore sell for consumption. Bster, with your bringing up the Monte 4's and Dip 4's, and my "duds than studs", my meaning is more consistency of quality. Are there other cigars out there that have more to offer in a similar package? For sure! But those two are great examples of what I find to be run-of-the-mill, larger known brands, but that have a noted flavour and consistent quality to them. You know what you're going to get with them. Can you have a dud in these still? Definitely. But in my experience, it's been one or two max in a 25-box, versus a half dozen or more in some of the "fringe" stuff. Some of my meaning was about stuff like Rafael Gonzales, Troya, Guantanemera, Juan Lopez, La Flor de Cano.
CanuckSARTech Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Hey, not trying to piss anyone off.... Sorry, but some of those just aren't me. Hey, if there's people out there (and on here) that like some of the lines I don't, then have at it - more for you. And I'm not trying to disparage anyone who does enjoy these. It's just that I haven't had any luck with them, and/or their profiles don't fit my tastes, and/or the one that I've had have maybe been bad examples. But, I have a tendency to be fairly harsh when I try cigars, to decide on what boxes to get. When I have a cigar, I generalize it into three levels - excellent, workable, or filth. If it's excellent, then I'm buying a box or two promptly. If it's workable, then I'm on the fence about it, which is worth me making a note of getting more singles down the line, maybe of a couple different box codes, to see if they're worthwhile to invest in or not. And if it's filth, then it just doesn't suit me at all, and I make a note of not even bothering to waste my time with another look for 3-5 years (or much longer, if I don't hear of any improvements). Sorry fellas, but that's just me. Not trying to stir up trouble (well, maybe trying to get under Piggy's skin! LOL. ). But, those are just my wild Ca-Nuttian thoughts and way of looking at my selections.
