El Presidente Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I will put the El Morro in the same category. We have seen some cracker boxes over the past 12 months albeit last month was a tad disappointing. Still, overall they have been well above average in terms of construction and wrapper. Flavour is distinctive with a bready coffee core and slight sweet molasses edge. A winner right? I mean, they are decent gauge cigars (the trend). Two questions 1. For those that have smoked them what do you like and/or do not like? 2. Why do you think the global purchases are so dismal. La Punta and Principe are doing fine.
Charltonc Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Robusto's must truly shine specifically with the other competitors. I have smoked many cigars non-cuban that have been better in the principe size such as the LFD 2000 or Padron principe. Once I see a nice box of San Cristobal Principe's I will be all over a purchase.

MontrealRon Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I've bought a few boxes of Principes, all '01s. Some bought fresh, some lot long ago. Every cigar has been great, from day one till today. One box of '02 Puntas, also good young, better now. A few singles of La Fuerza did not impress me. One box of '01 El Morro, also bought fresh, was really wierd. A very strange, unpleasant taste, which grew stronger as the smoke progressed. The problem persisted in the few I tried over a couple of years. This was one of my most disappointing purchases. After having buried the box for five years, I retrieved it recently to try another cigar. It was excellent. I repeated the experience a couple of weeks later, with the same results. Granted, one cannot generalize from one box, but if this bizarre taste is typical in young El Morros, I can see why there might not be many repeat purchases.
Mel Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I can not help by telling why the Prez is right about the two sizes but I attest that he is correct. I heard the word boring above and agree with that assesment of both cigars. I love the Principe and had a LaPunta that knocked my socks off a few weeks back.
greenpimp Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I have a box of El Morros from 05 that are great. They were almost too strong a year out and have really come into their own now. Most of all, they taste like a grown up version of the Principes profile, with that intense, molasses characteristic, just in a bigger cigar with more development. Perhaps I was just lucky. The la Fuerzas I have are hit and miss, either pretty good or boring. If they could make the bigger ones true to what I consider the SCDLH profile (Principes and Puntas) I would buy them all day. Maybe that's the problem, that they are not always blended to the same profile. But when they are they are great.
