mhartnett Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Bright, sunny morning. Brought out my first RASCC, and I had heard pretty good things about them. Smelled alright, the draw was good, and I thought I was in for an enjoyable experience. Boy, was I wrong. Opened sweet, with some cocoa, and then it immediately transitioned to dry cement mix and hay. Oh, and some cayenne in the back of my throat. If that sounds intriguing to anyone, it wasn't. It was awful, and it stayed that way for a good 10 minutes or so. I'd tell you what happened after that, except there was no after that. I trashed that awful, awful cigar immediately. Disgusting. I haven't been a huge Ramon Allones fan, and this solidified it. I still have a Gigantes to try, but if that doesn't go well, the door will be closed on Ramon. Thoughts on these? PS- after this, I lit up a Trinidad Coloniales, and enjoyed a real cigar. Yum.
aavkk Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I have a couple questions, 1. How many RA's have you smoked that have been as you described? 2. Have they been from the same box code and if so what was it? I would hate for you to close the door on the brand as a whole. By the way, just out of curiosity what brands and vitolas do you enjoy the most?
mhartnett Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 I haven't had a lot of RAs. Two RASS, and this was my first RASCC. Not sure if the RASS were from the same box. Got them as singles from the Czar. I wasn't offended by the RASS, but they just didn't really do anything for me. My favorites right now are VR Famosos, Trinidad Reyes and Coloniales, PSD4s, Juan Lopez #2s.
aavkk Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Also, how long did you allow the cigars to settle after being shipped from Australia? I've found that quite often smoking cigars off the truck or shortly after receiving them leads to disappointment. It's also quite possible that you had some duds but don't write off the brand especially with such a small sample size.
dicko Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 That's too bad mate. I did a review of this same cigar this weekend and got similar cement mix, paprika/cayenne and hay flavours at times. I enjoyed mine. It may be that you don't enjoy this 'dry' flavour profile, might not be your thing. orrr you just got a dud or needed to acclimatise as AAVKK suggests. cheers, Dicko
mhartnett Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Yeah, I really don't think there was anything wrong with it. Just not my thing. REALLY not my thing.
SethLG Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I love the whole Ramon Allones portfolio, great smokes the lot of them. It's too bad you didn't enjoy that little treat.
