Hello,

I wanted to participate in the petit corona review this weekend.

So, I decided to smoke a RYJ petit corona. Unfortunately, my camera is not working

properly right now and can't provide the pictures.

Personal opinion: This is was my very first cuban cigar that I smoked about 7 or 8 years ago at a Las Casa in Toronto. This is the cigar that I tend to smoke frequently because of usual financial restraints, but I don't mind because I enjoy them.

Pre-light: The wrapper is quite nice and smooth looking. The colour is milk chocolate and a little dry looking (i.e. no oily wrapper). Some green spots. Aroma is pleasant and reminds me of dry grass. Draw is somewhat tight, but managable.

*I'm not a very critical smoker. So, finding the adjectives is difficult and I'm going to have to rely on the FOH flavour wheel on this one!!!

Impressions: This cigar didn't change at all in terms of taste throughout. I consulted the flavour wheel and have to say that the RYJ PC has a floral/woodsy character to it. Seems like there's a hint of spice (like a cinnamon) that comes through periodically. In opinion, on average it's just below a medium, but picked up a little bit towards the end in terms of strength. I've smoked about 15 of these throughout the past 7-8 years and they never really disappoint me, but don't get me excited either. To me it's the best beginner cigar because it doesn't require a lot of time to smoke, it's a good size, and the smoking characteristics are pleasant and not over powering for the first-timer.

Out of 100 = 81

Side note:

I'm currently living in HK where space is a premium. Anyways, there was a thread a while back about posting pics of your 'cigar chair'. Thought I'd post mine(taken when I first moved in). This is the only place in my apartment that I can smoke because 1) it has a vent to expell the smoke. and 2) there isn't much room to smoke anywhere. Pretty comfortable I must say!!! :lookaround:

I suppose point ratings are very subjective, but if I smoked a cigar that scored an 81 in my book I wouldn't be able to look at that particular vitola ever again. Honestly I can't remember the last time I had a RyJ because they've always kind of disappointed me. What a shame for such a legendary marque.

There are plenty of other PC's out there that should push 90 points and won't bust your piggy bank, specifically Punch PC and Dip 4's. Try those if you get a chance and see if they don't WOW you.

Ya... point ratings are quite subjective.... for me it kinda goes like this:

<79 = durty -> never try again

80-89 = it's alright -> i'll smoke them if it's around

>90 = good stuff -> must be a celebration!!! =)

I'm not really a harsh critic and easily pleased hehe... but at the same time.... I haven't really tried that many different types....

I'll give those PCs a try... thanks for the suggestions!!!

chinamike...you need an apartment with a balcony. Not that hard to find in HK, and may make your cigar smoking experience a bit more enjoyable.

Rarely hear about this cigar. I have a box from 06. Good solid medium bodied cigar, but there are other PCs with much more flavor. Now, the RyJ TPCs (if you can find them) are VERY good.

Nah, I actually like my place is it's close to work and amenities....

Besides, the toilet is quite confortable =)
