mhartnett Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Just pulled this one out on a ridiculously hot New Orleans afternoon, and it hit the spot. Unbelievable these don't get talked about more. Started off with rich, sweet chocolate, a cinnamon spice, and wood on the finish. The draw was a bit tight, and remained that way to the end. Before reaching the 2nd third, a fruity sweetness popped in. Something like the fruit in Ethiopian coffee, if that means anything to anyone. In the second third, it was back to alternating rich chocolate and earth. About halfway, the spice crept back in. After the halfway point, the cigar started to show signs of how young it (presumably) was. Flavors were a little less rich and cohesive. It didn't "pop" as much. At the very end, there was a wave of sugary sweetness, which was a nice change from the earthy flavor leading up to it. All in all, I was very pleased with this cigar, and I'm definitely going to be buying some more of these to rest for a while. Only one picture. Sorry. Got a phone call and couldn't take any more.
Jesuscookies Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I went on a JL binge about a year ago and ended up with about 10 boxes of the PC's, #1's and 2's. I blew threw about 3 boxes, and then slowed down on them. I just had a # 1 tonight, and must admit I love them. They are not as complex as some of the other marque's that I smoke but they are highly enjoyable. Especially for the price.
PADDYWHACK121272 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Nice review, it's true the JLs are often overlooked when considerng the robustos, it's been a while since I had one, must stump up for a few more one of these days...
mazolaman Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I got some of these a while ago. From Late 09. Initially, they were too young to smoke, but after a couple of months they are starting to calm down, and are roving to be a medium bodied straw flavoured cigar. They still need another year I think.
eman67 Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I LOVE them...I get a lot of fruit and red wine taste...like sangria in a cigar!
ksblazer Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 My friend at the cigar lounge is burning through these like crazy. Right now this is his favorite cigar from 09. He was generious enough to gift me one and must say that I was very good. If you are a fan of the J-Lo's get some.
whiteknight Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I have burned through one box of Juan Lopez #2's and I am half way through my second. I really love these vitolas. I have been tempted to stick with the #2's since I know what to expect, but I am curious about the JL #1's. Any of you guys note any real difference between them? I also agree with the comments that the JL #2's are too young straight out of the box, and I have never enjoyed one with more than 6 months on it. I am trying to keep the 15 or so #2's I have left alone in the humi for long term aging, (2-3 years) if I can resist them. What are these babies like after maturing for a couple of years?
Aficionado Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I like this cigar, for its sweetness of the fruits, and lightness aroma of meadow grassland.
