edameff Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I am going to look for these while we are in St. Lucia this week, since it is a Caribbean release and I am here, why not. I don't know if I will even find a legit shop, but I am going to give it the old college try. If anyone has had this cigar, tell me what you think.
Cohiba007 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I have had three and absolutely love them. Good luck on your hunt.
edameff Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 Excellent, thanks for the fast reply, I guess you can have the job as my assistant. Clear the calander for August 21-September 21, we will be in St. John and I will have a huge "To Do" list for you.
BolivarSmoker Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Funny you mentioned it, I just got back from Grand Cayman yesterday and smoked one two days ago. If you can find them, definately give one a try. Good cigar, just not crazy about the size/format.
frenchkiwi Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I had one of these c/o of Trevor from cubancigarwebsite.com. Cheers Trevor. I really enjoyed the format of this shorter piramides, not too fat, nice tapered end, perfect smoking time to synch with my slower puffing mate to whom i'd given a Dip no.4. Probably took a bit under an hour. Not surprised that they don't have regular production in this format as making a piramides costs more money but it's still a small-ish cigar so pricing would be awkward. Nice reddish brown wrapper from memory. Construction was perfect as you'd like to expect from an expensive cigar. However flavourwise it was just ok, relatively satisfying, straightforward leather and wood with a hint of stonefruit and hardly any spice. The Dip no.4 ('08 from czar's i think) showed it up with complexity and intrigue, no sweetness, lots of white pepper and a bit of cedar - overall, ceteris paribus you'd have to say it was the better cigar. The difference in excitement between a skirt and a mini-skirt, a skivvy and a plunging neckline, and so on and so forth! The Juan Lopez didn't seem to have much potential for ageing either (famous last words ;-) This RE turned out to be special only in terms of the vitola, and otherwise it does the trick, but sans plus.
pocket9s Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Thanks for the review on these! I almost pulled the trigger on these last year but got cold feet at the last minute. I think I'll just stick to the regular production stuff from JL.
kevinfj Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Bought a box of these a few years ago at LCDH in Grand Caymen. BTW, the owner Valerio is a nice guy and very knowledgable. I smoked them young (stupid) but they were pleasant. I like the shape and the construction was good. If you can find them, good cigar. FJ
