  1. I regret looking forward to receiving some cigars that I'd been after trying for a while, namely RyJ Corinata En Cedros and RyJ Cedros Deluxe No 2. I regret it because I lit them and they were terrible, impossible to get a good draw from. I regret the lighting them bit because looking forward to doing it was the best part! What a let down!
  2. Partagas Serie D No 4 (2005 I think). This was my first try of Partagas cigars and also my first try of a cigar larger than a PC. One of the things that struck me most was a more consitent smoke taste-wise throughout the cigar compared to the more distinct 3rds of PC's. A really enjoyable cigar, full of flavours but smooth too and I'll definitely be trying more, very impressed. Here it was..... Most of them have been set alight already!
  3. » i just read in the MRN .... » » Petite Lanceros » » hand made, discontinued in the 1980's. no pic of cigar anywhere. » » only came in Semi Plain Boxes of 25 (without cellophane). » » NO tubos mentioned. » » as a matter of fact it looks as if none of the Por Larranaga line ever » came in an A/T format. » » that tubo pictured doesn't look like it was made 20+ years ago. looks » pretty newly made. » IMO » » oh well, i thought the tubo looks cool. If the Petit Lanceros were discontinued they must have been made available in tubo's, as that's what's printed on the side of the tube. It's from the same collection as the 501's and they were also in rare packaging. Thanks for all your help so far folks.
  4. » I have no personal experience with them, but as usual, my first stop would » be Trevor's site: » » http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.asp...#Petit_Lanceros Thanks, that's how I found out they were worth waiting to light up..well, that and the fact there are hardly any references to them on Google! The same lack of good "google-info" led me to post my first ever thread on here bout cigars about the Don Candido 501's.
  5. Anyone know anything about these? I was on the verge of lighting one up and found out they were vintage/ aged, so thought I'd enquire if any folks knew anything about them. I've not had a PL yet either but there's some nice limited edition ones in my local store for £19 each! Since my last posting on here the PDS4's and the RASS's have been nice to me, but still the RyJ PC's are top of my list. Thanks for any help peeps. Carl.
  6. » If you don't smoke them you should at least share the proceeds of any sale » with your friend. Perhaps if he knew how much they went for on the open » market he wouldn't have been so generous? That's the amazing thing, he has an idea of what they are worth and STILL gave some to me. He's looking at selling another 4 boxes (2 of which haven't had their seal broken yet) and also some of his 501's in the double coffins at an auction organised through one of the cigar stores in London, apparently they're holding a Cuban Dunhill sale. He also has a full box of Partagas Churchills and again they are rare to be available in that size by all accounts
  7. » Mate you only live once! » Smoke them: You have nooooooo idea how strong my bain is telling me to do just that! I've got a little Don Candido angel one side saying "Save them, appreciate, smell them, KNOW you've got them as a complete box, heirloom, smell, be smug, smell them" and then I've got the other little sh@t saying "Where's the lighter?"...I LOVE that little one sooooooo much compared to the other boring git
  8. I was initially gave a couple of Dunhill Don Candido 501's from a very good friend and after learning they were pretty rare this in turn made me look into cigars etc. Thank God I didn't smoke them before I researched the fact that they were so valuable! I've now been really suckered into the passion and real appreciation of cigars. In the last month or so I've tried a good number of brands including H. Upman, Dunhill, Bolivar, Luiz Martinez, Monte Cristo, El Rey Del Mundo, Cuaba, Romeo Y Julieta, Punch, Cohiba amongst others from my local tobacconist (I'm sure the till beeps just because I walk into the store!). The other night the same friend popped round and incredibly gave me a full box of 25 of the Don Candido 502's...you have no idea how dumstruck I was. Here they are with a coffin of the 501's. I cannot believe I have some of the worlds finest ever made cigars in my home that I can admire and smell (oooooooooohhhhhh) whenever I want but here's the thing....I couldn't ever smoke them! Would you? Imagine lighting that very first one and taking 1 away from a full box? It would be like shooting one of my kids (on a second thought...). The waves of guilt washing over me would drown the appreciation ones, screwing a momentous occasion right up! Also, here's another problem; where can I go from here? I'm JUST getting wrapped up in this passion but it's like saying to a jeweler, here's a piece of diamond and some 24ct gold...fancy some copper and a cubic zirconia? Still, I can't complain, it's not a bad position to be in is it ;-) ? At least I get to smell them forever! The waves of smugness are washing all over me..
  9. » » ...My wish list just keeps on getting » » longer! » » You ain't seen nothin' yet! I bet....;-)
  10. I popped into my local store again today and came out with a Bolivar and an El Rey Del Mundo to have some fun with. My wish list just keeps on getting longer!
  11. » p.s. of the brands most often available in smaller tobacconists and cigar » retailers in the U.K. Cohiba, Montecristo and Bolivar would be my » favourites. Apart from one particular one that has caught my eye (can't mind on the name of it) they are the 3 I'll be trying next. As I've already mentioned I'm just getting into it really and apart from a "cigar" taste I'm basically trying to distinguish other flavours. The H. UPMAN one that I tried had a very slight pineapple/ fruity taste on my pallet/ roof of my mouse and the Dunhill Petit Carona was a heavier one overall with a leathery, walnut/ wood taste from what I could make out, but bear in mind my pallet's obviously new to it all. I preferred the H. UPMAN one for now. I'll post a begginers review of my next one on here in the right forum next time, witha photo of it. From the sign it says that it is the first time they've been in the country. Thanks again for all your help and advice folks
  12. » Hola dp » I'm surprised that Carlisle doesn't have a specialist tobacconist, don't » know it well myslef, but was driving through the middle of town the other » day, beautiful place. » » Cigars from your newsagent won't have been kept in the best condition, a » better bet is to go to small high-street wine shops like oddbins or » majestic and you'll find that many of them have humidors with a few » different type of cigar for sale. Mostly Montecristo (all of which I would » highly recommend), Cohibas ('mortgage your house and smoke the best'), and » Romeo y Julietas (not really my cup of tea). » » Hope this helps Although I call it a newsagents, they kind of do specialise in tobacco products too, having a seperate humidor room and a tobacco sectioon. The stock all the main products that you have mentioned and really they are the best local stockists. Cheers for the other suggestions and I'll make sure to buy them to try in the future..this is a hobby I'm really just embarking on and enjoying it so far! Going to be testing the new ones very soon.....
  13. I've been to the newsagents today and bought a couple to try. There's a Dunhill Petit Corona and an H. UPMAN HAVANA, which has Cornas Junior written on the tube. I'll try and take some photos taken of them and let you know what I thought.
  14. » » I've been given what appears to be some rare Dunhill cigars by a good » » friend » » Hi Carl welcome. I'm from the UK too, but nowhere near Cumbria I'm » afraid. Would we be able to see some pics? Always enjoy seeing » classics. » » Thanks Hi, Here's the Dunhills. They are Don Candido Seleccion Suprema No. 501's and come in pairs in individual coffins, which from what I've read on here makes them even rarer.
  15. I really don't mind the 3-5yr period (or however long it takes). I'm growing bonsai trees from seed anyway to get non-scarred perfection, so that's not long in comparison. On the plus side, it gives me time to smoke other cigars to gain a reasonable taste of them too. Imagine doing this with your own home-grown tobacco leaf? Here's some links for vids of growing them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM3lMyU8k8g 2nd part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4XQTwTCY-g&feature=related The feeling when lighting one up must be immense and definately worth the wait. Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK you can by grown and ready leaf?
