  1. I have received a box from Rob of RyJ Churchill and am contemplating whether to send them back because of exactly this issue. The wrappers have zero sheen and some feel like sandpaper. Greg, very honestly and quickly, offered for return postage but I don't want the team to incur costs if it can be avoided, so will take a day or two to make the decision.
  2. I recently bought a box of La Punta and have the same thing - both on the cigars and cedar sheet. I presume it's crystal formation during the fermentation process of sugar in tobacco leaves. However, I don't know anything about the science behind it, just a guess based on stuff I have read over the years.
  3. I know lots of people don't rave about the Edmundos but I've been very lucky that all have been excellent. One of my favorite size and cigar. Never smoked a PE therefore I'm unable to compare them. The No 2 is another favorite of mine, though some have been exceptional while a few plain good.
  4. If either band is lose or can be moved/dislodged without further wrapper damage slide one of them down. It'll hold the spilt wrapper in place. Then move it up as you smoke.
  5. Never thought about it like you but interesting indeed. I've sent an email to H&F to see if they can shed some light on the issue and also if they would like the Falstaff for their collection.
  6. Recently I've gone in the opposite direction, I used to smoke cigars very occasionally and mostly for very special days, with friends, to enjoy an evening in the sun etc but for the last 8 months I've been smoking almost daily. The cause? Possibly finally buying marevas and similar sized cigars that are very enjoyable. However, I intend to cut back down to 1-4/month and I've got more than enough to last me 15 years at that rate.
  7. I called Frank today and he assures me they are more than 50 years old. He tells me minimum 50 but most likely 55. I told him I was thinking of keeping them for another 50 in his honour and he laughed. Told me to light them up. What's the story behind the NC? I've tried really hard but I'm getting nothing relating to those cigars from that era. I might offer the Falstaff to H&F as a gift if they wish to add it to their museum.
  8. They absolutely are, I have recent ones at home. These ones might be as old as 50 years, he couldn't remember when he got them but he confirmed at least 40. He hasn't smoked for 55 years.
  9. 2 more photos if it helps. This time with the cigars included.
  10. I had checked and can confirm neither had Hand Made written on them. The Punch has a plastic blue cap, the RyJ aluminium.
  11. I knew it, you all rock. So much knowledge on this forum and I am grateful for it. No plans to smoke them, like you I, too, thought it would be great to keep them. Edit: I have a spare empty Punch tubo as the one pictured for anyone that wants it on the forum.
  12. Awesome info, many thanks! TBH I had done some searches before posting but found very limited info. I found Freeman's connection and also the factory had moved from London to Bristol I believe and I thought I read it was about to be demolished. Maybe not.
  13. More than value I am really interested in finding out a little more about the cigars themselves. I know some of you have encyclopaedic knowledge and am merely curious. Also I wanted to share with the community what I think might be a rare find. I opened the Cubans and they are in immaculate condition. The Tampa ones are still factory sealed. For the rest I am slowly increasing the humidity and they seem to be doing fine.
  14. Indeed, he doesn't smoke or drink any more so I thought I would take him out for a steak. Any ideas on the cigars or their background?
  15. I have a friend and got talking to his father. He told me he had stopped smoking about 40-50 years ago. Then he gave me these as a gift which have been sitting in a drawer at home. Some of them I don't recognise. The other Cubans are possibly the machine made ones? I would like to give him something in return, what value would you place on these?
  16. I in fact bought a box from our host a month or two back and wrote to Di the box had not been inspected or opened. When i got the cigars out the wrappers looked decidedly on the greener side. Now, we all love to open boxes to see nice oily wrappers etc. but this box wasn't delivering. I moaned like a little girl and Di offered me a full refund if I returned it, no questions asked. Well, what would you know. I was wrong, admittedly I couldn't have possibly known anyway, but they are smoking beautifully. I'm glad i didn't return them. Lesson - don't always judge a book by it's cover. Although with Cuban cigars there's little guarantee the look will deliver a good cigar.
  17. Can't see it or post there, don't have enough posts. Maybe I should be more chatty. ?
  18. Hi everyone, I've been reading with interest some old threads about aged cigars and they got me curious. So here's an offer. [moderated]
  19. A few months ago while I was in Belgium. I had smoked a Siglo VI, then an Edmundo over a period of 6 hours. Lots of food and drink but everything was brilliant. That is until an hour later when i lit up a Partagas P2 to give our host company having gifted him my second Edmundo. We got on a mini bus about twenty minutes after lighting the final cigars and it was boiling in there. I got nauseas instantly but didn't realise it wasn't the alcohol but rather the cigar. I felt sick deep down but i knew everything going on around me. It was a very horrible experience, worse than any drink related experiences of past I only realised the next morning that it was the cigar not the booze to blame because i woke at 4:30 am and with zero hangover. Of course all my friends and colleagues wouldn't have believed me so I kept it to myself.
  20. Not sure but if you can get the plain white stuff please just buy that. All you need to make sure is that it's made from silica and nothing else. BTW, I own this product because of an accident with a mobile phone and a kitchen sink. It's very useful, and certainly better than rice.
  21. I can confirm in my experience it is the best method. Take a small container or plastic pouch and stick a few silica crystal packs in there for a few hours with the cigars. These small packs that come with your shoes, electronics etc. and you can easily buy online (in the UK). Make sure to keep the ones not being used in an air tight container until you use them for obvious reasons. If you can't find any silica packets there's a little trick. Many cat litter products are now made from silica crystal. Here is a link to one in the UK. You can use this and use ladies tights to keep it contained. Also useful in your humidor if you keep seeing an increase in humidity. These tend to release/absorb to keep around 65-67%. Bonus: no smell, discolouration etc. All this at your own risk. Don't blame me later.
  22. Oh shucks, just saw this message. Thursday night is just not possible which is a shame but I will make an attempt. But I will be up for another one soon.
  23. Haha, that's even better. Right, I am stealing that and claiming it to be mine.
  24. Excellent, I think a Surrey meet is on the cards as soon as the sun peeks through in the next few weeks/months.
  25. Really, thanks guys, I will blush. Nothing to see here, rare moment of clarity. Won't happen again.
