Kangaroo495 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Just finished a month of smoking small cigars. Here are the results: 1. Partagas Shorts - Incredible cigar. This has everything. It's the kind of flavour explosion I expect from every Cuban cigar when I light up. The benchmark for quality 2. Bolivar Coronas Juniors - A narrow second. Fantastic Bolivar wet, heavy, leathery tastes. 3. Cohiba Panatelas - Spectacular. Unbelievable flavour. Reminded me of a Siglo IV. 4. Bolivar Bonitas - Slightly lighter than the CJ, but still very worthy cigar. 5. San Cristobal El Principe - Interesting taste - floral maybe a bit nutty/fruity. Was slightly disappointed by the last third 6. Monte #4 (just editing this in, as I forgot it in the original post) - Thought it was a tad on the harsh side, but was very satisfied with the typical Monte richness of the cigar 7. Trinidad Reyes - Definately not a bad cigar, but comes in at 6th place simply because it wasn't a bomb. Something probably for the more refined palate. Too light. What else should I have included? There are only 7 because I prefer to smoke several in order to give them a fair review.
neal875 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 As these are some of my favorite cigars, I enjoyed reading your comments. I have to say, however, that one of the most consistently disappointing small cigars for me has been the SC El Principe. Absolutely inconsistent construction and flavor and just not worth messing with any more. On the other hand, the others you list are, more often than not, very flavorful and well built examples of why we love this pastime as much as we do. I assume that most people here have skipped over many of these smaller cigars (the Bonitas are now discontinued unfortunately) and you have given them some really great information to expand their smoking experience with. In fact, if you have not tried a Bolivar CJ or Partagas Short (when they're 'on') you really should do so soon. And, while we're at it you can also add the Partagas Connaisseur #3 and Punch Margarita to the list.
Fuzz Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 And, while we're at it you can also add the Partagas Connaisseur #3 and Punch Margarita to the list. Gotta concur with the Connie 3, a fantastic smoke IMHO. Will probably become a staple in my humi, along with my other fave, the HdM Des Dieux.
Guest rob Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 What else should I have included? There are only 6 because I prefer to smoke several in order to give them a fair review. Ramon Allones Small Club Carona Punch Punch Monte 5 Cohiba Siglo 1 (when on form) As far as what you did smoke... great idea to try them out and compare them. I'm doing a similar thing soon - I've just purchased Czars Double Corona / Dalia Sampler pack and am looking forward to doing the same sort of side by side reviews.
armedak Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I would also include Le Hoyo Du Maire RASSC Siglo I Monty 5 Dip 5
Justin01 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Hey boys, I'm new here I haven't had a chance to introduce myself yet, but I had to jump in here. Last night Before attending Real Madrid's open practice I wanted to enjoy a cigar with a few of the boys before we went. No having anything at home to fit the time frame I went over to one of my favorite B&M for a minuto. I ended up picking up a few sticks of Petite Partags and boy did they deliver! Petite Partagas: excellent construction, but the first 1/3 (if you can even break it down into thirds at that size) had very tight draw. After the first inch it opened u and became a flavor bomb. Nice cuban tobacco flavor but also very sweet and delicious, not cocoish but almost like a candied cherry. When I looked online these where apparently discontinued in 2002, but boy do they age well... going to pick up a bunch to throw in the humi today. Defiantly grab some if you can find them
sloth Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I have been smoking some RA small club and Party Shorts both from 08... I have to say I am enjoying the small clubs better over the shorts. The shorts are good... I only had one bad one. Had a weird harsh metallic taste.
