From last tuesday until May 27th, final match in Rome there will be European Football Champions League, so I suggest for who watches it to pair a great cigar while watching.

As many of you may know I am a fan of Inter Milan and last evening there was the first clash between my team and world champions Manchester United (my british team ) .

It was also Carnival and it is tradition in my family that we eat the “Pastiera di Pasta” ( a richer cake of what we generally have on Easter day ( The Pastiera ).

Due to all the above I also decided that for a clash of giantas I needed to smoke a Cigar Giant so between a Monte “A” and a “Sanchos” I opted for the second.

No more in production, a gran corona 47*235 dated 2004.

Started smoking at 8.15 pm and ended far after the game ended at 11.20 and while the match is been very poor for my italian team ( final result is been 0-0, so I believe I should go for a Monte “A” on March 11th for second leg ).

Of course I believe that the smoke is been partially affected by the high tension of the match anyhow a brief review is still possible.

The cigar was perfectly constructed and after I used my puncher could confirm it by a nice draw with very light aroma pre-lighting. The cigar was until halve mildor better say weak and I cannot really remember any special flavour beside very light wood. I’m sure that the cigar needed more attention ( maybe )

After two hours smoking some strenght started and I enjoyed a bit more ( maybe because Inter started playing better ? ) , flavour was always mainly cedar wood but also some burn-caramel could be detected.

Anyhow I do not have a great memory of the smoke, almost none aftertaste and very limited evolution.

My neighbour Fernando smoked also a gran corona, but made by Juanita in Melhia Hanana in 2006, I tried few puff time to time, and this was far better with a nice strenght, great evolution and this morning meeting Fernando going out ge said he could still feel the smoke in his mouth.

Maybe it is because it is time for supper... but that Pastiera is making my mouth water, it does look truly delicious. I hope your team has better lick playing MU in the second leg...

I agree, the cake looks delicious. The cigar doesn't look too bad either! I'll have to catch some of the upcoming matches.

Gino, Thanks for a great review and some awesome photos.

Pastiera di Pasta is one of the best things to eat this time of year. I love it... but my waistline doesn't. Just so good.

I reviewed a Sancho a few weeks ago (in the review section) and my experience was like yours. A very uninspiring cigar and I don't really look forward to having another one any time soon.

Cheers fratello. Keep up the great work.

Liverpool will make it six titles this year, its in the bag!!

You call them Liverpool, I call them half of the Spanish National team :D . Since my team (Deportivo La Coruna) is not in it, i'll route for Liverpool and Barca.

+1 on the "Pastiera di Pasta". I've never heard of it before, but it looks great. It is very reminiscent of a dish cooked in Jewish homes, especially for holiday meals, called Noodle Kugel, an egg noodle casserole baked w/ raisins, cinnamon, butter, ricotta or sour cream and cottage cheese. Many variations, also savory versions of Kugel w/ vegatables and potatoes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kugel

Tonight one of my teams , the Italian side was kicked out. Now Manchester go until end....

Fortunately I smoked a great SRL Double Corona from 2005. Rich and tasty even if I was suffering looking the game.

i note that the glorious gunners had a doddle in rome overnight. just made it look intresting for the fans. surely this year...

and i was sorry to see man u get up. i'm always sorry to see man u get up - they are the cowgirls/tahs/all blicks of soccer, though at least the cowgirls, all blicks and man u do win things occasionally, unlike the tahs.

What an incredible spread...but not so fast on the Man U prediction......watch out for Liverpool. They can't seem to get it right in the Premiership, but when it comes to Europe they kick into a different gear....You'll Never Walk Alone.....

Watched ManU finish of Inter yesterday with a Mag50. Sublime second goal from Rooney to Ronaldo. I just don't see anyone beating ManU this year. With everyone back, they're just too deep of a team. Liverpool always do well in Europe, but they can't seem to beat their English counterparts. I hope they can get a favorable draw that allows them to avoid another English team in the quarters. As for Arsenal, do they ever advance past the quarters in the UCL? Sorry Ken, but don't they always get knocked out in the round of 8?

ManU has to be the favorite to win the Champions League, but watch out for Liverpool; they are a dangerous team and have a very good defense. Their problem is finding enough offense to put the ball into the back of the old onion bag. ManU -v- 'Pool in the EPL is this Saturday, so we will get an indication of where Liverpool stands in relation to ManU. Should be a classic match!

does no one recall the stoic final of a few years ago when they took barcelona to the wire despite spending the game one man down thanks to the outageous sending off of jens lehmann? if there is any justice, they'll romp home. and as for knocking off man u, what about the FA cup final from a few years ago when the much bally-hooed man u went down to the glorious gunners from penalties? i will concede that i have neer seen, in any sport, a side so massively outplayed go on to win anything (all down to that man lehmann).

Sorry, forgot about 2006. Just a shame that they could not finish off Barca in the finals. How heroic would that have been? Taking Barca out with 10 men. Huge difference though in the squads of 2006 vs. 2009. In 2006, they still had Lehmann, Sol Campbell, Freddy, Pires, and Henry. They had heaps of experience with a mix of some very good young players in Cole, Van Persie, and Fabregas. Today, only Van Persie and Fabregas remain...and Cesc has been injured for most of the season. I'm eagerly waiting for them to become a contender again. I still believe that Fabregas has the ability to become the best in the world.
