habanablue Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Nice one Prez. I didn't know that Hamlet would have his own band...You'd think that in a communist state any expressions of individualism or personal kudos would be beaten out of you?! Hope those kids don't get in the way anymore..I'm off to Al's wedding in Kiwi Land tomorrow. Should be fun;-)
n2advnture Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Great review Rob. I've had a few Hamlets and they are indeed one of my all time favs (although tough to get). Thanks for the pics, I haven't had one with a "Hamlet" band either. Kinda cool to see. ~Mark
Guest gorob23 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 » Great review Rob. » I had one the other night, Friday I think ;-) it wasn't a pym but it was damn good!:-P Rob
Ginseng Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Ahhh, what a wonderful review. And so suffused with friendship and a real personal connection. So much more meaningful than just a cigar out of a box. Thanks, Rob. Wilkey
Ken Gargett Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 » Hamlet Piramide 2003 they are fantastic (what a shame you and your idiot mate lost 150 of them by leaving them in a bag in the room at las salinas last trip). also love the robusto's (especially with some age) and when you try a salamone of his, you wonder why they have not lined up all the rollers responsible for the crap known as cuaba, against a pockmarked wall and dealt some swift cuban justice. tried some of his biggies (don rodolfo, from memory but only on the last trip and way too young but have locked some away for the long term. they should be crackers.

Our theory is that you » spent too much time packing away your umpalumpa outfit. so your authority would be macho, a bloke so in tune with reality that he left a full sized, unopened bottle of yquem in a cuban fishing guide's esky and then berated marty for not bringing it back even though marty had not been within 100 kilometres of the place he left it. (and in truth, we both know it was macho who lost them as i never had them at any time - something about you not trusting me with 150 of hamlet's finest). was graeme even on that trip?
Ken Gargett Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Our theory is that you » spent too much time packing away your umpalumpa outfit. and another thing. let me confirm that the umpalumpa outfit is on its way to kiribati, or would be if air pacific had not left its plane in nadi! they have felt spleen a la gargett. as there is only one connection per week to this island from fiji and we are at best, arriving an hour post its departure, i may be back sooner than you might think.
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Hamlet Piramide 2003 Seriously.....family holidays are an oxymoron. "Dad....lets do this...Dad....lets go for a swim (cyclone bearing down at the beach...12 foot waves)....Dad...lets go to the movies (are all movies cartoons these days!!!!!!). Well finally I had some time for a cigar and a much needed bottle of wine. God I miss Lise! Selected a Hamlet Piramide 2003. I spoke to my good mate just prior to Christmas. He is nursing a broken wrist (he is a *****....likely sprained) as a result of some home plumbing. As a Handyman....Hamlet makes an excellent cigar roller ;-) This cigar looked great from the det go. Aroma at cold was a sweet cream rice and Vuelta Abajo tobacco. Construction was perfect down to the ragged foot whhich is a Hamlet trademark (along with late nights and a fear of his wife). Clipped the cap...the draw is perfect with a sweet tea background. Fired up the foot and was met immediately with a sweet tobacco magnificence enveloped in a medium body. The piramide immediately puts you into a relaxed state. Sweet medium bodied tobacco. Toffee, milk cofee...a little white pepper bite through the nose. The cigar slowly evolves and takes you on a beautiful journey representing the finest aspects of Cuban tobacco. This is a medium bodied cigar...no more no less. It is a cigar which through its first half canvasses a kaleidescope of sweet and sour spices. Each draw is an anticipation...a surprise par excellence. The evololution encompases mushrooms. pepper, milk coffee, toffee, cinnamon, smoked paprika spice. Past the halfway mark is charred cherries no doubt a reflection of Hamlets R&J heritage. Cinnamon toast enters the last third and I go in to make a fresh brewed coffee. This cigar is really a masterpiece and the best of many Hamlets which I have been fortunate to have enjoyed over the years. 96/100 I look forward to catching up with my mate in a few weeks time.
