IncaKing Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Just got back from a business trip to Illinois and effective January 1, 2008 they will be a smoke-free state. No more smoking allowed in bars or restaurants. My sanity when flying to “da bears” state was knowing that I could relax after a meeting with a good cigar and a drink. Now I will have to smoke out in the cold and I’m sure that will stop when our glorious elected officials make that illegal. I was surprised at the number of states that have implemented a smoking ban. Here’s the current list (per a USA Today article dated 12/11/07): Washington Oregon California Montana Utah Arizona Colorado New Mexico Minnesota Ohio New York Vermont New Hampshire Maine Massachusetts Rhode Island Connecticut New Jersey Thank god I can still smoke in my house. Oh wait, the City of Calabasas (in California) is trying to stop that with a proposal to expand their anti-smoking laws to encompass apartment buildings. Enjoy a good smoke while you can.
tandblov Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Only place to smoke in WA state is on Indian land. Can't smoke even in cigar shops. Many apartment buildings and condos have smoke free rules written up in the HOA, Covenants, and leases. It sucks ass...

While not a state you forgot Washington DC! So far two exemptions and the shops are the only places.
Zaphod42 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Yep, only a couple more weeks till the ban is in effect. And of course it has to be implemented in the dead middle of winter when it's too damn cold to go outside and smoke. I'm getting my share of smoking in at the local bar until the new year; as much as I love a cigar, I'm not sitting in 20 degree weather for an hour at a time. This whole thing started in Chambana about a year and a half ago...it's been downhill ever since.
gehrig24 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 I am interested to see what Dikta's is going to do. Every time I am in there I ask and they keep saying they are going to fight it. Should be interesting.
GoSteelers Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Add Tennessee, although we did get exemption for Smoke Shops and Adults only (21 & up) establishments. It is just wrong it is the decision of a business owner not the government. Then it is everyone elses decision wether to go to a place where you are FREE to SMOKE or go to a place where it is smoke free.
n2advnture Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Washington DC Certain counties in Maryland (soon to be state wide)
Colt45 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Not to promote Cigar Aficianado, but there is an interesting short video clip on their site of James Suckling smoking in an L.A. restaurant. This may be one of the rare instances where a grass roots movement could actually bring about change. But it will take some fearless people.
avid toker Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Delaware banned smoking statewide a long time ago. Also, major cities in other states not listed are also banning smoking locally like Houston, TX and Philadelphia, PA to name a few.

Austin, TX was one of the first cities in TX to go that way. Fortunately there are still a number of bars that look the other way and the folks that complain are shown the door.
Guest Warren Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I have only recently re discovered the pleasures of smoking a good cigar and I will be damned if anyone is going to tell me what to do in my own home. Thank God it hasn't come to that just yet here in the land where we have to fight Kangaroos at Christmas.:-D My Dad never lost that fight by the way , what can I say , Hugh came from show biz stock.
Mel39 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Neighbour smoking complaint tests A couple who received complaints from their neighbour claiming cigarette smoke was causing a nuisance say tests have now been carried out. Gwynedd council confirmed it was investigating a complaint about a couple smoking in their own home. Two smoke bombs were let off in Jeanette and Gavin Gordon-Crawley's living room in Caernarfon and they hope to have the results next week. Inspectors visited the adjoining house to find out if smoke came through. According to Mrs Gordon-Crawley, 54, who lives in a semi-detached house, the smoke was not visible but it could be smelt. She described the amount that could be smelt as "minute". Mrs Gordon-Crawley said she is a social smoker and Mr Gordon-Crawley, 51, smokes around 20 cigarettes a day. 'Hoping to hear' It is thought the odour could be permeating through a ventilation tile or grid in the wall of the house next door. "My husband made a comment that you'd need a thousand people in the room to smoke that much," said Mrs Gordon-Crawley. She invited the environmental health inspectors to carry out the test after being notified of her neighbour's complaint. "I'm just waiting for them (the council) to make some recommendation. I'm hoping to hear by the end of next week." She said she has not seen or spoken to her neighbour since she made the complaint. A spokesman for Gwynedd council said: "Whilst the council does not discuss individual cases, we can confirm officers are investigating the matter and are in communication with the residents". habanohal Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Was talkin to my wife about this. She is the Supervisor of VIP at Harrahs Casino here in Joliet. They asked IGB if they couldextend the law till the end of their gameing day at 6 am. It was turned down. Now at 12:01 am, they are to pick up all 2000+ ashtrays off the casino floor, and all employees are to tell everyone who is smokeing to put it out. If they do not comply, the Joliet Police Department is going to arrest anyone who says no. Looks like I will have even moree cash for cigars, for I wont be gambling anymore if I cant smoke their. Usually go through 2 cigars and a pack of Cigs in a session
