Your best ever box of cigars purchase....

Not talking here about price. Talking about sheer enjoyment. The box of cigars you still remember to this day. The box of cigars which is etched in your memory and that you continually benchmark other cigars to.

Just list the box of cigars and the code if possible. If not just the box of cigars and the year.

Probably a box of Sept 2004 (Don't remember the factory code) MonteCristo petite tubos. I had not smoked too many Cubans then, and that whole box was outstanding! I'm still hoping to "re-create" that smoking experience one day! A box I had later from Mar 05 was nothing like them.

Bolivar Royal Coronas SVF MAY 05 (maybe MAR 05, but I think it was MAY). This box was maduro, slightly oily, but most importantly, it had an UNREAL smell! It smelled like black tea, seriously. I wanted to age the box, but I smoked one (couldn't resist) and within 2 weeks they were gone. Not just a faint aroma, a strong smell, and a definite taste of black tea. Fantastic!

Second was a box of Partagas 8-9-8 V, one you sent me that was lighter in colour than I wanted. :-D Fantastic aroma, Awesome cigars (all gone, too :-D) Box code was GSO AGO 06 I believe.

Partagas D3 EL OFB ABR06 - To me a beautiful cigar and presentation, and it has sentimental value being that I had one cigar on my honeymoon....you know when you have good cigars but every now and then you have an exceptional one? Well on that night I had an exceptional one and for that reason I really hold on to these cigars.

Prez I know you have some left in stock please save a box for me after the holidays.

Partagas Cabinet Lonsdales SUA LL00 (1999). Cost me $248, which I thought was too much at the time.

You Partagas lovers know why this is a classic.

I think I'd have to go with an '00 box of H. Upmann Sir Winston. They are etched in my memory on two counts.

When they draw, they are an absolute delight. Very flavorful yet refined.

When they don't draw - and at this point it's about 50/50 - they are unsmokeable.

I can't help but mention a very close runner-up - '03 Bolivar Coronas Gigantes. These have, on more than

one occasion, put me in a transcendental state.

Head to head, each at their best - it's a tough call......

Partagas 898 varnished 04 (I forgot the correct box code)

This is an easy one for me

Mid 80's La Escepcion Longos. Remarkable cigars, that show me what true havana tobacco greatness can be. I have never tasted some of the true holy grail cigars like the Cuban Dunhills, 1492's etc but I cannot imagine these could taste better to my palatte than these Longos that I am trying desperatly to ration.

I paid alot for them and I can honestly say that they are worth every penney and probably more. If I could find more of these I would be buying them up no question.

NC is a box of '03 VSG Corona Gordas... every damn stick was amazing... still have two stashed I can't bring myself to smoke yet!

CC is a box of '01 Partagas Coronas I got for my Bday a few years ago... a couple of plugged sticks, but every other one was superb... that box is single-handedly responsible for making me the Partagas ***** I am today... lol Can't believe they discontinued them, hopefully the boxes I loaded up on age as well.

Feb 02 box of Bolivar PCs bought at the Melina Cohiba Hotel Feb 03. First day of a two week trip through Cuba. They were so good I smoked almost the entire box. When we got back to Havana I went back & bought the remaining 4 boxes with the same code.

Bolivar Belicoso Fino, MAR04. I ordered this at the insistence of a friend, even after a complete bust of a BBF cab from 01 that to this day developed little flavor at all.

I still remember where I was sitting, everything about that first cigar from the dress box. Outside, Santa Barbara fall night. It was electric, literally, ungodly strong but rich and flavorful and earthy and so complex for a young cigar. The finish was of black truffles, intensely, and I was buzzed for hours. I immediately bought another box and smoked the other incessantly. I am looking forward to having a couple when they turn five.

Haven't had a great BBF since that box.

These are interesting posts, Matt. Here's why:

I have a nearly full SLB of BBF's from JUL04 way in the back of the humi that I haven't even tried in a couple of years. Hmmmm...

The 2002 Partagas Lonsdales cab may actually be the best Party lonnies ever. I've tried everything from '99 on, and the 2002's are the only ones that I think have greater potential than the late '90s. Enjoy!

1996 Montecristo Especiale

Bought and shared with a bunch of HCF brothers in Las Vegas. Exceptional cigars with exceptional company in an exceptional setting. Who can beat that combination?

Damn Bob. You beat me to the punch.

I have a cab of 50 Partagas Lonsdales with the same box code,

SUA LL00. They are, the few that are left, my favorite special occasion cigar. Jimmy can also attest to the quality of this stick.

I am having a hard time with this topic. I am pretty sure the best box I ever had went so fast, I do not remember it. And so when I try to think of the most memorable box, it all turns into a blur and I focus on the latest releases, which are all knocking my sox off.

My best, best memorable box of cigars? The last one I smoked from... Pretty much always.

It's crazy how great minds think alike:-D .My Partagas Lonsdales cab of 50 from OSU Mar 02 are the benchmark of what all my cigars wish they could be.Close second would go to my RA 8-9-8's also from 02.
