Thanks for another great review (on another cigar I've not tried).

Do you (or any of the fellowship) ever feel that TABACUBA is blending the identity

out of some cigars?

Rob, Thanks for the review.

What do you drink/eat with the cigar? I have no idea. Since the flavor is so delicate and weak , Most of things make it tasteless.

You could eat Chorizo sausage with this Choix Supreme

With traditional lighter flavoured Supremes on a Sunday morning I tend to pare the cigar with little pancakes topped with a dash of egg mayonaise and dollop of chilled salmon roe. Makes a nice delicate mouthfull. When doing this I ditch the Sangria or Coffee and pull a bottle of Champagne.

Colt, I don't think the blend changes are intentional. I suggest they are trying hard to maintain the essence of the cigar but the tobacco they have worked with in 2006/2007 has simply been more pungeant, more powerfull than previous years.

Much darker wrapper than I have seen in the past. Nice looking cigar.

I would agree that previously they were a very nice mild smoke which has it's place. I look forward to trying one of these newer ones.

I first saw very dark ones of those in FEB 06. Not tried them yet, but I bought some. I'll try and take a pic.

Chorizo is only for bolivar and partagas for me.

Coffee ... not bad. I guess tea is also good with EDMCS.

El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme MCS MAR 07

I have always enjoyed this cigar as a late morning offering with the Sunday papers and either a pitcher of coffee or Sangria....whatever the weather determines ;-)

The 2006 offerings of ERDMCS were excellent in the main but forced me to re-evaluate their Sunday morning role. They were fuller, stronger cigars which now held there own as an after lunch / evening cigar. I wasn't complaining mind you....but with the even of stronger 2006 cigars across the board...I was running out of mild complex cigars which I really do enjoy for the Sunday am programming slot. Than God for the Sancho Panza Molinos :-)

This 07 ERDMCS looks the good. Well filled, propper weight in the hand, strong barnyard/tobacco aroma, good construction. Clipped the cap and found a deliriously good draw with some lip smaking tobacco and barley flavours at cold.

Fired up the foot and noticed the strength immediately. This cigar is a good 20% stronger than any ERDMCS I had in 2006 and 50% stronger than anything in 2005. Intense white pepper through the nose, black coffee on the palate, viscous chewy mouthfeel and a creaminess/sourness akin to full cream milk that is just past its prime. I know this last factor is an element of youth and while the ERDMCS tried hard to mask the flavour with black coffee and woody notes....it wasn't completely successfull.

It was well into the second third that the Sourness disappeared and a light shone into the soul of what this cigar has to offer in the years to come. Cedar wood, black coffee, thickened unsweetened cream and a touch of molasses formed its calling card. It s a "thick" cigar which takes its time to coat the palate. Long aftertaste.

I suspect that the sweeter cream notes will evolve over the coming years and that the cigar will revert back to a medium bodied offering but right now it is robust and ever so willing to showcase its wilder side. The white pepper hit through the nose is striking and so out of place for a traditional Choix Supreme....but I like it.

Choix got a little confused into the back third with a balsa wood/cardboard note that I do not like. Black coffee was still there but the sweeter molasses notes were slowly driven out by a return of the sourness. Full bodied, intense and irratic finish. If it was a NASCAR it would have hit the wall.

I don't have any doubts that this ERDMCS will be a gem come 2010-2012. If you have the patience. I suspect that its days as a late morning cigar are over for the majority of Habanos lovers.

88/100 4/6 Smokerings.
