Trevor2118
Can anyone advise of the availability of Spanish Cedar in Australia? Interested in quantities for large cabinet or small walkin humidor! Thanks.
habanablue
Trevor, a couple of years ago A mate of mine was planning to build me a humidor. He was a wood teacher by trade and was going ot do it in his spare time. Feel through although he had made a start to getting Spanish Cedar from some big Wood suppliers out at Windsor etc. Not sure if they will supply small amounts but worth a shot. Unfortunately can't remember any names.. good luck. you could always just buy a lot more boxes from El P and use that. Def. ghetto fab style there! Never cease to be amazed at the FOH knowledge base. This was enough for me to do a White Pages search for Timber & Windsor.....and upshoots: TREND TIMBERS PTY LTD SPECIALISTS IN FINE WOOD FROM AUSTRALIA & AROUND THE WORLD PO Box 212 Windsor 2756 Cunneen St Mulgrave 2756 (02) 4577 5277 Fax (02) 4577 6846 Adrian Clark 0418 203 748 Email [email protected] Internet www.trendtimbers.com.au A quick ring & yes, this IS the place! They have a good supply. approx $4,500 per cubic metre ROUGH Sawn includes GST. Stock thickness is 25mm, some 50mm. Lenghts 1.2m to 3.6 m. Widths 100mm - 150mm, some (limited) 200mm. Price seems correct as I had been told to expect $4,000 m3 plus GST (a QLD rate) & this is local to me, so I can inspect before purchase. Many many thanks to Habanablue. habanablue
Mate, don't thank me I just said there was some place in Windsor or there abouts. you did the searching... if you really want to thank me I'll have to come over to inspect the walk in humidor when it is complete and ensure your cigars are in optimum condition by trying a few! Hope all goes well for you buddy!
skid11
You can also try a goggle search on a few guitar suppliers (luthiers). I know they supply spanish cedar in larger sheet formats. Ideal for lining the inside of the humi. It's a cheaper way than constructing all out of spanish cedar as there are a lot of great Aussie hardwoods for the outside of the cabinet. Hope this helps mate.:-)[link]http://www.cigargroup.com/gallery/homemade.htm[/link]
hoagie55
Another thing you may want to look at is eBay. I was looking for spanish cedar to line my coolers and found a supplier there. He was in the states (same as me), but he had really good prices and the wood was FANTASTIC. It may be worth a shot to research. Howevee, I do like the idea of spanish cedar sheets!! When I grow up and build my walk-in I will be looking for the sheets! That would make your walk-in a little easier to make. Just make sure you use a good mask when cutting the sc and do so in a well ventilated area as it's dust is toxic!!!

Trevor2118
» Another thing you may want to look at is eBay (USA). » Many thanks---did look at eBay but sc only avaialable in the States (very cheap) ......but unfortunately delivery to Australia is prohibitive. If I was in the States I would not bother to make my own because of the great range of humidors available there.......we have absolutely nothing like that here.....thats why I am building my own. Thanks.
