El Presidente Posted May 12 Posted May 12 This week the Lizards pair the C.L.E. Cigar Company Maduro 50x5 with Ass Pocket Whiskey Original Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The guys do a deep dive on Christian's and the Eiroa's family story, they discuss legendary guitarist Derek Trucks' foray into bourbon, and they share a voice memo on turning a cigar pastime into a passion. PLUS: Is Bam the Tulsa King?, Saint Luis Rey's 30th Anniversary, Cigar Imports Flatten in 2025, Drew Estate Dominicana Announced, Knuckle Sandwich Behind the Scenes & More 1
JDoughty Posted May 12 Posted May 12 I dunno, I usually prefer to take my whiskey orally. It tastes better that way, even if the other way will get you drunk quicker. 3
TomsRibs210 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 A highlight of the episode is the lizard math of calculating how much Ricky drank, how fast he drank it, and how many cigars were smoked while he visited his fantasy baseball friend. The boys needed to bust out the lizard abacus. Between this and Bam’s precision prior callouts of the dimensions of a muffuletta, this is emerging as my favorite math podcast. 2
Dadof3 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 I'd love to see Tedeschi Trucks play a full show of rock numbers. They dabble in it but I think they hold themselves back at times.

I agree. I think Derek wants to make sure everyone on stage has a chance to shine during the show. I do wish he'd just worry about himself and Susan and let everyone else fall in behind. 1
Jackdani7401 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 @LizardGizmo, I have to say I’m disappointed that you guys didn’t hammer on Chef more for knocking the bourbon a full point because of packaging? Also, a few weeks ago Chef knocked a rum a full point because he didn’t know anything about it, yet the history was given and it was researched through the rum pirate for sugar content information. I thought the ratings were based on what it is in that moment? Can’t change a rating, so it is what it is…but we all come to expect better and not some amateur BS docking because of packaging. No one rated the Partagas Aliados higher because it was a gorgeous box, albeit a s**t cigar. Gotta lock it up Chef, you’re better than that!! 2
ElLoboLoco Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I saw him play in a small venue/bar in upstate NY, man, it had to been ‘93 ish. I think he was like 13 years old. 1
GP012 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I'm guessing the APW (no points deducted for the name? surprising) is MGP juice based on the distillate being from Indiana, so I'd like to hear the Lizards take on that. The pricing at $65/750 is reasonable. I understand Senator's point about Weller & Eagle Rare being more affordable, but good luck finding those at retail. Sourcing from MGP is a factor in the pricing, Penelope Barrel Strength as a comparable 7 year MGP product is the same $60-65/bottle. Here's an interesting article on MGP, there are plenty out there and I'm sure some other posters with more bourbon knowledge could weigh in: https://www.cincinnatimagazine.com/high-spirits-blog/mgp-ingredients-lawrenceburg/ Looking through MGP's website, I didn't realize they have Tequila too. Time for a deep research dive! 1
