Before all the price increases I would've been all over these. The size sounds great.

Unfortunately I already know I'll never pay the price they're going to ask for these. I'm certainly not in their demographic. 😁

Let's hope they will try to price it correctly. It's a great vitola at 47 x 170.

Very interesting, but…50 mins to an hour? Am I missing something?

Siglo 6 is given smoking time 50 mins over here. Talisman 60. It doesn't scare away the young new richsters. Quick 15 min puff after dindins won't look so crappy.

I've said it before, but you have to simply marvel at how hard Habanos S.A. has worked at trying to match their Trinidad product with their Cohiba ones over the last twenty years or so. But we know that they're not the same (type of luxury product), don't we?

What’s the old saying - if you have to try to be cool, you ain’t cool?

New Cuban Trinidad Premieres In Mexico City

Mexico will be the first to sell the Trinidad Villa, made exclusively for La Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialist retailers

The Cuban cigar brand, Trinidad, has occupied a special place in the hearts of Mexican cigar smokers. It was in Mexico in 1998 where the Trinidad Fundadores, a panetela-sized cigar, left the shadows known only to diplomats and celebrities visiting Cuba and was first presented for sale exclusively in Mexico. Last week, a new Trinidad size, the Villa, was also launched at a gala dinner for 200 people in Mexico City.

“Since 1998, passionate Mexican cigar lovers and aficionados have considered Trinidad part of our history and one of our favorite smokes,” said Pablo Velasco, the director general of Importadora y Exportadora de Puros y Tabacos S.A. (I.E.P.T.), the company that imports Cuban cigars into Mexico. “And today, 27 years later, we are here to open another chapter . . . in our heritage.”

The Villa measures 47 ring gauge by 6 5/8 inches long, a vitola known in Cuban cigar factories as a Julieta No. 3. In addition to the traditional Trinidad band, the cigar carries the Casa del Habano exclusivo band, which highlights that it will only be sold in Casas del Habano and Habanos Specialist cigar shops. It also has a foot band with the Villa name.

Each 12-count box of Villas will retail for 20,000 to 22,000 Mexican pesos, or between $100 to $110 per cigar. Although there was an official launch party, these cigars are not expected to appear on shelves in Mexico until January or February.

The gala dinner was held in the Jardín Lambú, a special-events space in Mexico City. The dinner included five courses: a panna cotta of blue cheese and pear; a corn soup flavored with vanilla and pistachios; a sorbet of nopal (Mexican cactus); a short rib roasted 72 hours with a coffee and cocoa sauce and a porcini risotto; and a crunchy hazelnut pastry with praline mousse and cardamon ice cream. Each course was matched with a wine and the dessert was accompanied by a Selección de Havana Club rum.

After each main course, the guests were given Trinidad cigars, starting with a Trinidad Reyes (petit corona), a Trinidad Vigía (short robusto), a Trinidad La Trova (large toro) and finally, the Trinidad Villa.

An auction of a box of 24 Trinidad Fundadores from 1998 and a box of the new Trinidad Villas raised 281,000 pesos, or approximately $15,000 at current exchange rates.

At the beginning of the dinner, Gabriel Estrada, a Habanos Man of the Year for Business in 2019 for his retail shops in Buenos Aires, Argentina, told the crowd of elegantly dressed men and women that Trinidad had remained one of Cuba’s secret jewels for over 23 years. But in 1992, the world came to learn of the mysterious cigar when Marvin R. Shanken, the editor and publisher of Cigar Aficionado, published a story titled, “Trinidad. The Best Kept Secret of Cuba.” Estrada went on to recite the words of Avellino Lara, one of Cuba’s greatest cigarmakers at the El Laguito factory: “It is the selection of the selection of the selection.” Estrada said that phrase captures the essence of Trinidad, of its exclusivity and refinement.

“So today, more than 50 years after it was created, Trinidad remains the most respected and intimate gem of Cuba,” Estrada said.

Trinidad Villa Debuts in Mexico, Retail Release Delayed (Update)

November 18, 2025 - Patrick Lagreid

The Trinidad Villa, a new cigar created exclusively for La Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialist stores, is set to make its debut in Mexico in mid-November.

image.jpeg.6f84e5b606fb51abff6ce3521bcaf586.jpeg

It’s a double corona that measures 6 7/10 inches (170mm) with a 47 ring gauge, a new vitola called Julieta No.3. Like the rest of the sizes in the line, it comes with the signature pigtail cap, and is presented in boxes of 12 cigars.

“Trinidad distinguishes itself – and this new vitola is no exception,” said Álex Fernández Blanco Barrero, deputy director of operational marketing for Habanos, S.A., in a press release. “With the new Trinidad Villa, we wanted to highlight an innovative and elegant format that perfectly complements the brand’s balanced, medium-strength blend. This Habano demonstrates how the subtle and refined combination of avant-garde and tradition lies at the heart of true luxury.”

The cigars will debut on Nov. 13 at a launch party at Jardín Lambú in Mexico City hosted by IEPT, the distributor of Cuban cigars in Mexico. They will then be available at La Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialist stores in the country the following day. A widespread release schedule has not yet been announced.

A representative of IEPT told halfwheel that pricing is set to be between $81.25-$92 per cigar, with the variation due to the pricing strategies of individual markets.

This is the second time that the Trinidad brand has been used for a La Casa del Habano exclusive cigar, joining the Trinidad La Trova, which was released in 2017. Like other Habanos Specialist and LCDH exclusive cigars, it will wear a secondary band that has the logos of both programs on it. There are more than 140 La Casa del Habano franchises around the world, with the stores independently owned, licensed franchises from Habanos S.A.

In order to gain an LCDH license, stores must meet certain qualifications, including requirements for the type of humidor and lounge features a store has. They are also required to have an aging room. LCDHs have access to specific LCDH-exclusive products from Habanos S.A. and often get priority for the first shipments of new cigars. In return, the stores receive exclusive cigars like the Villa as well as priority shipments.

Habanos Specialist is a designation given to stores that meet certain qualifications set by Habanos S.A. They are expected to promote the culture and prestige of Cuban cigars, but are not required to carry as many Cuban cigars, nor are they required to meet other stipulations like aging rooms and lounges. There are more than 1,200 such locations around the world.

Correction (Sept. 11, 2025) — The original version of this article identified this as the first Trinidad cigar to be released for La Casa del Habano stores; that was inaccurate and has been corrected above.

Update (Nov. 18, 2025) — Although the launch party took place as scheduled, a representative of IEPT told halfwheel today that the cigars are not yet available for retail sale as originally announced, and that they could be available in stores in January or February of 2026. The delay is due to supply isues, as a representative from IEPT told halfwheel that the distributor wanted to make sure there was enough cigars to supply all the points of sale.

Additionally, this week, Habanos S.A. sent out a press release saying that the cigars will have an estimated retail price of €81 ($93.77), a rare announcement from the Cuban cigar conglomerate, which typically does not announce a suggested price given the variability of taxes and other factors from country to country. It is unclear at this time how many consumers will see that estimated price. IEPT also announced that the price of the cigars has increased to between 20,000-22,000 pesos ($1,089—$1,198), which means individual cigars will cost $90-$100 each, more than what was initially announced.

This story was originally published on Sept. 10, 2025.
