Lunettesman Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Hello everyone, I hope this message finds you well. I need your help. I have a small smoking room on my terrace. It’s a trapezoid-shaped attic space without windows but with a glass door. The height is 2.5m (8.2 ft) at its highest point and 2m (6.6 ft) at its lowest. The width is 1.5m (4.9 ft), and the length is 2.5m (8.2 ft). To ventilate, I had installed an extractor fan in the ceiling that used to push the smoke under the roof tiles. However, since the management installed solar panels, the insulation is now too strong for the smoke to escape. As a result, I installed an air purifier that circulates a lot of air. Unfortunately, since these changes, my downstairs neighbors have started smelling the smoke. However, the adjacent room doesn’t smell anything. What do you suggest to fix this problem? I don't want to stop smoking, nor do I want to bother my neighbors. Would installing an extractor fan in the glass door work? The issue seems to be that the smoke stagnates because there’s no airflow, then cools down and sinks, whereas before, it would rise under the tiles and dissipate. Thanks for your help

It's a glass door so it's not just about skills but equipment... I would have to hire someone to do it for me. 😅 I've installed an industrial extractor in my man cave a couple of weeks ago myself but it was through a wall. Btw, it works wonderfully but it's a bit noisy, not sure you can have an efficient and silent extractor at the same time, all the smokers I know kinda regret going with the silent one, those aren't neither cheap nor efficient. I built a "silencer", it went from 70db to 45/50 db but that's another story.

And I'd rather a noisy extractor that works than the neighbour loosing his sh**. 1

Li Bai Posted February 4 Posted February 4 It would be of no use to you, mine extracts 980m3/h for a 70m3 room, a good one should extract 10x your room's volume per hour (at least it's the regulations for smoking lounges in the EU and I've based my own calculations on it) so you should aim at 90 or 100m3/h. There are quite a few devices in that range, often used for bathrooms, but you would need a ventilation hole somewhere also to allow an airflow otherwise you would have a bit of an air pressure problem. Both should fit on that door but you might want to ask for professional advice here. 😅 2 1

Lunettesman Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Yes I did. New neighbours. New complainers. The old set up was apparently enough for the old ones. Not for the new ones... 1 1
