The L&L's are the only kit I have left. I think the only snare drum I wish I hadn't sold was an 8x14 Radio King with the aluminum war badge. It was so original that it had the original calf head and slunk stamped with "Manny's Drum Shop" in NYC. Clamshell strainer with the original arm that tended to break... WMP, of course. 10 hours ago, Grateful13 said: Some great instruments in this thread! My biggest “impulse” buy this year was a 1960 Les Paul Junior. One of these has been on my radar for years but I finally found one this year for a price that was too good to think twice about, at least by 2022 standards (I bought an even nicer vintage Gibson a few months before so I wasn’t really in the market). The plastic knobs are replacements but otherwise no breaks and all untouched electronics. This thing absolutely screams. Oh, now that is SWEET!!! Took the rear hub motor and controls off to use on another bike and now I’m waiting for a mid drive. I’m building a custom 72volt water and air cooled battery + mid drive is 1.5k watts. Should top out at around 45-50mph. These things are so easy and fun to work on. It’s like being a kid again.
Popular Post nKostyan
Precision drilling machine for home workshop. 1977 year of manufacture, new without operation. Honest 100 kg of cast iron and not one Chinese part. Right now, precision bearings alone will cost half of what I paid for it. P.S. One nuance: this is the third drilling machine in my household 🙂
Popular Post Kaptain Karl
Not exactly a buy, but for the second time in 5 years I got ambushed with a puppy at my parents. My cousin’s frenchie had a litter and they couldn’t find a home for this girl after 5 buyers fell through, so now we have puppers #2!

Signed by Adolf Galland no less. The actual thing is off being framed but can't wait to have it up. What's the etiquette on these things? Could that be considered Third Reich glorification? I guess it can become a conversation piece rather quickly...

I totally understand this type of artwork, photos of my grandfathers B-24 Liberator are plastered all over my house, but why ME-262s? Of all the airplanes and all the pilots that have ever flown anywhere on the planet, why a Nazi Ace? What is the allure?
Popular Post Puros Y Vino
In regards to the ME-262 post. I cannot speak authoritatively on the eligibility of the post, even as a mod. We mods may have to regroup on this one. My personal thoughts are this. I don't think it really qualifies as Nazi memorabilia. Full on German Swastikas, propaganda posters, medals, SS lightning patches, etc are definitely the relics of the Fascist fringe out there. As a machine of war, the ME-262 holds a historical/engineering interest as what could have been the worlds first, jet fighter. For me, it is no different that having a picture of a Spitfire, Corsair, Lancaster (my personal fave) hanging on the wall. Lots of German military vehicles, planes, etc can be found in any hobby stores as models. Whether it be the Bismarck, Panzer tanks, Junkers planes, etc. Those speak to the German military forces. Nazis were a whole other ideological and political layer that rode on top of that military might. If it were solely up to my discretion, I'd be ok with a post showing that plane. I don't think that qualifies as Pro-Fascist. I welcome any insight and counterpoints. And yes, I see the Swastika on the tail. (that part, does make it controversial)

The Porsche Type 12 and Volkswagen Type 82E (i.e. 'the people's car') represent fantastic feats of engineering and production for its time. Today, Porsche and Volkswagen continue to have people who admire these cars without acknowledging the Nazi party's role in bringing these cars into existence. I'm sure @loose_axle feels the same way about the ME-262, I mean, from a aircraft engineering perspective. At least, that's the way I see it.
Popular Post Chas.Alpha
I weighed in a couple of weeks ago about great saxaphone solos because I am an old sax player. My bio clearly points out that aviation is my true passion. The one freedom you have with flying (unless you're in combat) is the ability to turn off everything on the ground and enjoy the peace of the air. While a monstrous political party may try to stamp their brand on these feats of engineering, at the end of the day, there would be no modern jet travel without these leaps forward. No V2, no cell phones or satellite weather... 6
Popular Post SpecialK
one of my hobbies is enduro and motocross and trying to collect anything I can find from the 70's.. I've not been that successful however.. I found a 70's Bultaco Jersey and my father in law found a Steve McQueen auction shirt from his estate auction after his death.. Steve McQueen is the Holy grail of 70's motorcycle culture as far as I'm concerned..

Not everyone who fought for the Axis were Nazis. And to be honest, I also have prints of both Allied and Axis aircraft at home. No glorification of Facism/Nazism, I just like WW2 era aircraft. 9
Popular Post BrightonCorgi
Just picked up this Alessi french press the other day. Their website had a Black Friday sale with 25% off which made the cost of this coffee press only slightly absurd. This pic is from this morning; the first time using it. Previous to the Alessi, our french press has been in use since the mid 1970's. Had to replace the beaker a few times.
