RAMÓN ALLONES NOELLAS ARRIVES IN ITALY

Recommended Posts

A release I had been looking forward to. But a bit shocked by the pricing. ER-Italy releases have always been quite attractively priced (jeez, Mantua for twelve bucks a piece...). This one - not so much. ☹️

At moment  they have been delivering few jars to major shops LCDH  and Specialist, a kind of first pre-sale. We are all waiting that the bulk will be out.

I don't mind the jar but a $100-200 premium for a plain glass jar is absurd. I didn't buy HU Noellas outside of Cuba for that reason.

The PL Coronas were $500 for the 50 cab just a couple years ago.

True. Actually, I don’t think it’s the jar (alone). I fear it’s a new general pricing scheme. It’s the cigars. The markup for the jar won’t be that much.

The porcelain jars of earlier releases were corresponding to an markup of appr. 50 to 60 EUR, retail end. Let that now be a 70-100 today. But a simple glass jar, even with the labels and clasps is cheaper to produce I’d say. Glass jars had never been considered a luxury packaging for cigars in former times when they still were in regular production. More like a canned food product, a mere Mason jar.

And yes, the PL Coronas had been 500 just four years ago. Which I already considered pretty pricey, when compared to the PC in the same 50-SLB makeup.

As a Coronas lover, I fear I still have to get one... damn sucker me 🤣

(will have to take even more JLP into the rotation 🙄).

I caved.  I'm on vacation in Italy.  Read this thread. Sure enough a Tobacconist in Bolzano had a jar.  Saw it three days ago, passed on it. Thought about it, three days later I returned and bought it.   It will go next to my LESF jar when I get home.

We are quite all the same finally. We know it's way too expensive, we said "no way! I'm strong and i'll pass on it", then we see it, we smell it and the conclusion is that HSA kills us.

But we should never forget that the Mantua Cab was around 600e 2 years ago only... (and i don't speak about 14' RA Short Perfectos price :( ...)  Now 20e for a Corona, even if it's RE is painfull.

The 500E jar I can live with. The 1440E Funds in the same store?  No way. I was hoping I could find some Mantua and Invictos in my uncle's sleepy northern town.  But alas, none were to be found.

True, it's not that black & white but there's no way they'd sell a plain box of Eminentes vitola for $20 each. Most larger ER vitolas are MSRP $25-30 and most petit robustos around $20. The RA Noellas should be around $15 each. $20 each for the RA Noellas that puts the jar markup at at least $125 effectively which is about the same as the HU Noellas.

If you check one of the earlier press releases (see Halfwheel), it had originality been projected to be EUR 400, i.e. 16 each. Appears way more reasonable.

Edit: well, reasonable is a matter of perspective... given this is essentially a PC “boosted” by 3 mm. 😅

$15-16 each with the jar would be much more palatable. And they couldn't even use an already short Cosacos vitola...

Will be in Italy in a few weeks.  Does anyone know of the best location to find these in Italy?  What are my best chances…Rome, Florence, Venice?

Anyone know of any random cigar locations in the Umbria region?  I’ll be near Assisi and Spello for several days.

I’ve sent an email to Fincato in advance and wondered if you fine fellas had any other suggestions.

Thanks!

Open up Google maps and in search nearby and  enter “Cuban Cigars“. Then start emailing or calling around.   Thats how I found the B&M that had a jar.

They could even use the same basic glassware as for the HU Noellas without further ado, saving them preproduction / tooling costs. Wonder if that’s what’s actually been done.
