International pricing policy by Habanos SA

I agree, they may make it through but I don't know how they'll do it at this point. I do think it'll be more likely than not. Most products are not positioned to move with these kinds of price hikes. I see a glut of things like Hoyo Epi, RyJ SC, RASS, Monte 2 etc. that will ultimately pile up at distributors and need to be wholesaled out. You won't be seeing any higher end product but I think the gray markets could continue to offer mid-range to low-end product which is the bread-and-butter of the market anyway.

Cohiba, Trini and higher-end models like SW, Lusi, 898, Monte A etc. will just not be available in gray markets until stock returns to previous levels.

I love my Monte 4 marevas, but pushing $300usd/box? Friggin' insanity.

I encourage everybody to ignore that request

Yeah - “Smoking these may lead to bankruptcy!”

Except for the fact that there are no Cohiba,Behike/Fundadores in Shanghai,Beijing,Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu.  If they were rolling around in boxes  of Behike etal, I would believe ha

Gimmie $300 per box for Monte 4s over $650 Epi 2s any day. Neither are actually gonna happen in reality for me though lol

Myself neither. I will burn through all my inventory until it's gone and call it quits. I enjoy cigars but can easily do without them in my life. There are plenty of other great hobbies.

I, like many others, are trying to do a self assessment.

I like cigars. But do I love cigars?

Is it worth holding onto this hobby, knowing full well that if there isn't a price reduction in the future, I won't be able to afford continuing.

Or should I sell every unopened box I have (only maybe 30 or so, give or take, I don't catalogue things)...

I think I'd rather cut ties and sell them now. But the fact that I have a hard time questioning this tells me I really do enjoy the cigars (or it would be an easy decision). But when I get to that realization I just get depressed knowing that once the boxes are gone, it's like game over.

I've had a few discussions with some local BOTL and sentiments are very similar. Sure, we like smoking cigars, but is it worth keeping and smoking, or selling?

That is the path that makes sense. But when you realize you are NOT buying anymore stock at these prices, then you look at your remaining stock and know after it's gone, it's gone....

If I had 10+ years of stock, or a life time of stock like some, the decision would be easy. I'd never sell. I'd just smoke my stash for the rest of my life.

But for those of us who have a few years worth of stock (conservatively) the decision isn't as clear cut.

I'm glad I have a 10 year supply, Can stretch it by supplementing with NC for I enjoy them just as much. I'm sure those that once were  hobbyist and have been corrupted by the dollar signs are happy. In time supply will increase and prices will revert.

LOLLL Siglo 1 - 775Euros ....Box of Sir Winnies 667 Euros....that makes sooo much sense. They are out to lunch

Look at the bright side. Apart from a few high-end (or so they say) cigars, most « only » increase by 10%. I was honestly expecting worse.

Cohiba, Trinidad have been raised the most - no surprise here
Montecristo 1935 and Romeo's Linea De Oro almost tripled - which is kinda rough and unexpected.
Regular cigars were raised in the usual 5-10% range I'd say.
Horrible to see the 1935 Dumas jump so much. Amazing cigar but I won't be paying that for them. Nearly 2 boxes left so I'll go slow....

A few years back, FOH's 24:24 offered 2 boxes of Monte 4 for USD $200 if I remember correctly...

Seems a bit low. Sounds like Monte 5 perhaps. $100/box Monte 4 was 1990s price.

I vividly recall PLPC at $230/cab. Siglo II was low $200s. CoRo $350. Siglo VI $450. I recall people flipping out when Rob put up Cohiba Robustos Supremos at $450. That was 2015-16.

Dumas? How about Leyenda at $1,320. Unadulterated insanity.

European retail on BHK if I recall correctly is 45-55 CHF or around 50 euros per stick. Only in recent years have retailers jacked up prices above 1000 euros for a box of 10. Heck I used to get the 54 for 20 GBP when they were first released.

I bought my last box of 52's at £195 - I remember complaining at the time £19.50 on a cigar was ridiculous! 🙃

You aren't too far off. My first box of 4's were from 24:24 some time in 2020. Cost me $135 I believe.

I'll be rationing my remaining stock and enjoying each cigar thinking of the good ol days. I imagine I have enough to take me to 7ish years. What sucks is I'm only 30 so I need to think of something more long term. I guess I wont be smoking Cubans in my retirement years like I thought.

If you can just sell off everything to make the buck I wonder if you ever really enjoyed the hobby. Everything has an end date, you cant think about it constantly or you wont enjoy anything in life. Would you sell your last case of the wine you love because you know it will end?

As an American firearm enthusiast I am familiar with the feeling of "the end of the hobby is just around the corner." Be persistent, keep up the battle and you will find a way. Enjoy what you have and don't think about when/if it will end.

Gave me a chuckle today to see “Habanos is now on LinkedIn”.

In this bat shit crazy world I wouldn’t be surprised to see them put up job postings for Torcedors!

Job postings? In a commie country? They'll just pull kids out of schools and train them to roll cigars. Who is going to really volunteer to learn to roll cigars for virtually no money?

Yeah, this whole roller shortage thing is odd. Like having a lack of army troops. Conscription anyone? Somehow they're able to get tons of doctors out of the system but they can't get cigar rollers?

I mean what's the point of central planning if you can't even handle this?

One of my Korean FOH BOTLs just informed me that the local Habanos Specialist store decided to increase the price of Cohiba & Trinidad by double from this month 😣. The price of CCs in Korea has been identical to UK (sometimes more $$$ than UK) since 2010's, but I fear that it'll be pricey as HK or Singapore in near future after HSA's pricing policy change 😭.

The price of NCs including Davidoff and Rocky Patel at Korean cigar B&Ms are also began to increase rapidly about few days ago. I believe CCs & NC sales in Korea will be declined massively for long period of time due to constant cigar price hike 😱.

I paid $249 in 2020...

But that's a cigar that didn't move much in price from the early 2000s until recently.

In the West  the same is happening in hospitality. Finding workers is bloody tough.

There is a global employment shift underway. The cigar industry is not immune.

The summer tourist season is just starting here in Eastern Massachusetts. Restaurants are desperate for help. There are not as many seasonal temporary work visas available as there used to be and there's next to no place to live if one does get here. There are going to be a lot of angry tourists.

I'm in Myrtle Beach. One of the biggest tourist destinations in the summer months. Last summer seemed to be shortages in the restaurants worker wise. So far things better this year. Tourist season is kicking off down here full force now. I think now the era of "free money" handouts are over, more folks are back to work. Worker shortages definitely don't put smiles on tourists faces. Good thing is there are literally restaurants everywhere here. Love living here so far.
