Popular Post ChangBang Posted June 14, 2021 Popular Post Posted June 14, 2021 This took a couple days of planning and several drinks in order to do this review. Recently went to Greece and took cigars with me - I cut and did a draw test before I packed because on vacation, I'm not going to struggle with a poorly drawing cigar. This PLPC was plugged and I couldn't feel a plug so I weighed it. According to the cuban cigar site - PLPCs should weight 8.46g...this came in at a hefty 10.21g after cutting the cap off. About 21% overweight! With it being so overweight and not having any draw, this is destined for the trash...but what if I could take out some tobacco to make weight? Cue my terrible idea that'll involve cigar surgery 😈 Start with a slice down the whole stick with a fresh razor. Even with the razor, it was tough to get through the pack. Next separate the filler with the wrapper and binder and pull that out. Looking at this I thought I was on easy street, just lose some leaves off the filler, put it back in and patch it up! Let's proceed! Loosened the filler and took out some leaves until I though I extracted enough - weight was looking good now! So this is where things went wrong lol. I couldnt compress the filler to the correct size, so I tried my best squeezing it back into the wrapper and used waaay too much rolling paper to Frankenstein it back together. I think my mistake(this whole thing was a mistake) was I made the sliced wrapper come together at the cut instead of trying to tuck one side under the other. May have turned out tighter than. Surprisingly the wrapper didn't rip when I was trying to squeeze it back together. I ended with this monstrosity I couldnt help but think of the godfather On the plus side, I could get a draw! On the negative side describing the draw as a wind tunnel is a massive understatement lol. Stuck it in the humidor for a couple days to let the cigar glue and cigar to dry out so I could attempt to smoke it. Well today was the day! Got a new grill so I'm tinkering around with fire control while smoking this. Lit up easy enough. Crazy open draw, but still get some flavors that I attribute with PLPC's so thats a success! Burn goes out many times and I'm lighting it as often as smoking a pipe. Burn was crazy wonky obviously I ended it here after about a hour. Cigar was a 3/10 - not the worst cigar I've had but the draw was a major issue with this. If the draw and my rolling skills were better, then this actually wouldn't have been so bad - not as many flavors of a regulars PLPC but I got enough to not hate the idea...execution could've been much better. Maybe I should practice on philly blunts or something before attempting this again! 3 1 6
Shrimpchips Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Dude. You used more rolling papers, glue and time than the PLPC is worth 😂 ok, after seeing this, I’ll definitely get to sending you those Mag 50s ASAP.
CHPSteve Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I applaud you’re determination 👏! I would recommend investing in a Perfect Draw tool. I was a NC convert and almost lost interest due to the tight Cuban rolls and my 69% RH way of thinking. I’ve found even the most plugged, tightest rolls can be improved to an acceptable level with the perfect draw. It’s saved me both dollars and aggravation. 1

Between throwing it away and surgery...I'd do surgery again 😂 Maybe practice a bit more.... 2 minutes ago, CHPSteve said: I applaud you’re determination 👏! Chas.Alpha Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Next time, try rolling with your palms instead of your fingers. Should produce a a better joint, er, cigar...😳
