Popular Post SmokyFontaine Posted November 3, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 3, 2019 You mean it's a review where I can rave about my beloved Nicaraguans? Sign me up...wait a tick. Have a PLPC dryboxing for a couple of days and knew I would have just a bit of solitude while the wife and kids were out running errands. Fine, I'll grab that and hope for the best. The last one I smoked was really harsh. Like, zing on the lips, 5-6 puffs and I could tell it was only going to get worse but trudged through it nonetheless. So I was skeptical. Only 48 more to smoke if I find them awful. ? Sweet tobacco and a bit of cedar by smell and cold draw. Alright. Easy to light, and draw was absolutely flawless. Enough resistance that I feel like I'm pulling smoke through the cigar, but nowhere near tight. Smoke BELLOWS off of the stick. There is almost a salted nut flavor that jumps out front. An oddity that I often find as I play around with Cubans is that sometimes the bouquet is aromatic and delightful...but the flavor of the smoke seems too mild or too harsh. I'm officially the Goldilocks of Cuban cigars, only I seldom find the one that's juuuuust right. But when I do, the chair, the porridge, and the bed are worth the effort. Not of breaking and entering. That's rarely worth it. I'm talking about smoking a cigar here. The weather couldn't be better. Very rare for us. Sun, not a cloud in the sky. Warm enough that a sweatshirt is all I need to feel content, but for the neighbor's sake I also wear pants...this time. Catching up on a couple days of newspaper. Drinking some home-roasted Ethiopian/Yemen blend coffee which has hints of caramel. Hot damn. That's a scent I'm picking up from the cigar bouquet and a bit in the flavor now. Really, really smooth and nice. The week had been a slog. Between job uncertainty (hey, if anyone is looking for a guy with tons of technical sales and operational experience, specifically in camera tracking technology, motion capture, and VR/AR, let me know ), family obligations, playing Mr. Mom now that my wife is back to work (first time in 13 years!), it's just been exhausting. This cigar couldn't have come at a better time. Continues to burn near razor sharp. Smoke pours off of this thing effortlessly. I notice small white dots in the ash, which historically I've associated with a nice cigar that has been well-maintained. I'm getting no major transition throughout the cigar. It started off really good, it's continuing really good. Still a good bit of sweetness, light cedar. toasted nuts (the saltiness has gone away). As it comes to an end, the whole experience has left me perfectly content. Is it the greatest cigar I've ever had? No. It's just really good. An 88 I suppose on some arbitrary points scale. As an experience - perfect. I'm in a better state of mind. Every part of it. From weather, to interesting stories to read, to a mind purge from a hectic week, to a really, really good cigar, this is going to be one of those days I look back on and attribute the memory of the cigar to an absolutely splendid day. Quite the hobby we have when something relatively inexpensive can play such a huge role in a total disposition change. Thanks PLPC, and our gracious host, whom I purchased this box from. 8
