JR Kipling Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 I like them both. Some of the boutique NC guys are coming up w/ amazing cigars. And sometimes I’m in the mood for pure power; so I grab a stick from Nicaragua. That said, lately I’ve been smoking mainly CCs. That Cuban taste & aroma is absolutely wonderful.
Sorrowful Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 I started getting into cigars when I was in college. Back then I found Rocky Patel 90/92, Ashton, Diamond Crown and Padron to be amazing cigars. After another 15 years, I find myself having shifted to primarily cubans. That said, I still pick up a non-cuban about 20-30% of the time and I have probably 20-30 boxes sitting in one of my humidors and find them to be much more consistent in construction than cubans. I don't think I would ever stick to a broad brush assessment of Cuban vs NC. Too many factors and both industries make plenty of junk. Most here would probably pick up an Arturo Fuente over a Monte Open. NC I still reach for and enjoy: Davidoff Nicaragua, 100th anniversary, Royal Salamones, Number 1 and Number 2, Master Selection Warped La Colmena Arturo Fuente Hemingway, Opus X angel's share, God of Fire 2008-2015, 888 Asthon VSG sorcerer Padron 1964 natural, 50th anniversary CAO Sopranos Diamond Crown Maximus NC I used to enjoy but have since not touched/don't enjoy after getting into CC Arturo Fuente Opus X, eye of the shark, Unnamed Reserve (all of them), Maduro Drew Estate Liga Privada L40 Lancero CAO anything else (there can be a few gem smoking experiences, but maybe 1 cigar out of a box is great) Rocky Patel anything Davidoff limited editions Diamond crown Julius Caesar Olivia Serie V There are also plenty of dog rocket non cubans I picked up over the years primarily due to cigar afficianado or halfwheel reviews that I have since abandoned. I particularly hated the warped guardian of the farm. 1

StogieSteve23 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 I'll personally never be fully CCs. I love Fuente, Oliva, Tatuaje and Padron to name a few. I need a variety of flavor profiles in my life and I think there are some excellent ones that CCs cant poses. I also believe that quality control and construction are generally more consistent in NCs but Habanos seems to be getting better with this fact over the last couple years. While now I am probably 95% CCs, I still keep NCs around that I know I like and will still smoke them with pleasure. 3

I am turned off by the taste , I think I am hooked on Cubans. Has this happened to anyone else? I just love Cuban Tobacco now . .... just about everyone with any taste! MHO! 1 1
Madjul28 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 For me it also hard to return on non cuban and enjoy them as begore..even if still lots of good one..now its better to enjoy an el and partagas maduro that remember good nc haha
Edward7 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 I used to shun nc like this. Though nothing tops a good Cuban cigar and it’s the best flavor profile in the cigar world, it would be sad if non Cubans didn’t exist. It’s fun to walk into a brick and mortar and see the wider variety of packaging and labels. Also like that I’ll never become as familiar in NC so it’s fun to roll the dice when grabbing one of many I haven’t tried. It’s not as interesting, knowing basically how every single Cuban in a shop will likely taste.
hanjr Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 I love Cubans, and wish I had the $ to afford to just smoke Cubans...I think they are so much better then NC's 1
