Popular Post El Presidente Posted August 19, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 19, 2019 I love a little bit of cigar art history. Cigar Box From the Election of 1880 Winfield Hancock Cigar box for the 1880 Presidential election, championing Democratic candidates Winfield Hancock and William English, who narrowly lost to Republicans James Garfield and Chester Arthur. Wooden box is decorated with Hancock & English on almost all sides and features a label from cigar manufacturer Otto Heizmann on the side panel. As a heroic veteran of Gettysburg with impeccable integrity, Winfield Hancock was the Democrats' most promising candidate to defeat the Republicans since 1868, having been out of power all those years after the controversial Presidency of Andrew Johnson. It was not to be, however, and the Democrats didn't gain control of the White House until 1893 with the election of Grover Cleveland. Cigar box measures 8'' x 5'' x 4.5'' tall. Age wear and hinged top starting to loosen, overall in very good condition. 11
bpm32 Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Very cool! General Hancock.....makes me think of this: Spoiler: he should have gotten off his horse when Ken Burns asked him to.
