ROMEO Y JULIETA CHURCHILLS AÑEJADOS ARRIVING IN SWITZERLAND NEXT WEEK

A new addition to Habanos S.A.’s Añejados collection of aged cigars is set to make its Swiss debut next week.

According to an announcement by Intertabak AG, the distributor of Habanos S.A. products in Switzerland, the Romeo y Julieta Churchill Añejados A/T will make arrive at La Casa del Habano stores in the country on June 19. It will then be released to Habanos Specialist shops on June 26.

As the name implies, the cigar comes in the Churchill vitola, which measures 7 x 47. Intertabak AG says that the cigars have been aged in the original tubes and boxes for at least 10 years prior to being released. The cigars also wear the secondary Añejados band that has graced the previous release in the series, which debuted in 2014.

That group includes:

  • Romeo y Julieta Pirámides — 2014
  • Montecristo Churchills — 2014
  • Partagás Corona Gorda — 2015
  • Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos No.4 — 2015
  • H. Upmann Robustos — 2016

They come in 25-count boxes and are priced at 835 Swiss Francs per box, approximately $839.70.

This is the first time that the Añejados series has used a cigar that is also a regular production release. The H. Upmann Robusto is available as part of the Travel Humidor series.

Habanos S.A. has not yet responded to an email seeking additional details about the release.

What an oddball release. On the plus side, the Anejados line gets a cigar that people recognize.  Now the odd thing is how will these be priced in comparison to the RyJ Reserva release?  These would be $33USD/stick.  What was the Reserva per stick cost on release?  Anyone?5YO Premium release vs 10YO aged/held back release? I know what I'd prefer. :)  And of course, this also means that Habanos is looking to capitalize on their aged stock and get a premium for it. The days of finding and buying old stock at current stock prices may be over.

Ok I have never ever tried any of this line of releases as so many have said they are bad! But this omg and a huge R&J fan need to try this as soon as my shop has some! Also love the way they are keeping the old tubes and label!

Maybe this will be the cigars that turns around the anejados-line? I have my doubts.

Yes maybe and for them to be stored on the tubes all this time when we are told to remove them when aging wonder how they turned out!

Anyone worried they just had loads of unsold tubes that didn’t sell for one reason or another and as they had old tubes they made them this release?

This just raises even more questions about the Anejados program. So before it was cigars, in new vitola, that were rolled and stored in secret for years, then released as a surprise.

But now the program is also putting out Revisado line cigars?

I know we take a lot from Cuba with a grain of salt, but this whole program is incredibly shifty

Well the NC market showed them the fistfuls of cash to be made with "rare" releases. As long as people keep buying it, the less innovative and transparent they need to be. Anejados being the least transparent.

I for one do not contribute to the rare madness since my wallet is only fat enough for regular production releases. I can't say I would not fall for it if I had more coin in the bank though.

Was this release even announced at the Habanos festival? (Either this year or last years).

Very strange release. The cynic in me would assume these have been lying around in boxes for quite some time unsold or undistributed and now repackaged with a fancy new tube, band and price tag.

I’m not sure I would even want a 7-10 year old Churchill anyway. There has been lots of talk on here about the poor state of churchills prior to 2014 with that year seen as something of a renaissance for the line. Why would you pay a premium for a cigar rolled at a time when the blending and care given to them was questionable?

I thoroughly enjoy my Partagas Añejados purchased here.  Actually my current favorite cigar in my rotation.

Who tells us to remove them for aging.  Aging in tubes is a good thing.

I think if there was some clarity then a lot of the misgivings would go, but the sheer amount of shady goings-on and bizarre HSA statements etc about them just sets off all kind of alarms for me.

If they had simply said, we have stocks of cigars designed and produced for limited edition runs but felt that the market wasn't right for them at the time, so are arranging the distribution of them now as a separate range... That right there kills nearly all the dodgy sideways looks.

I think the utter lack of knowledge from the amount of insiders, Cuban friends etc that had never heard anything about them before the press release casts more doubt over them than anything else

Just a bizarre series of events

Wasted leaf. The Anejados program, and especially the pricing, makes no sense.

Fool me once, shame on you!

Does this mean they've taken thousands of cigars out of their tubes to put an extra band on them, then retubed them? Or were they mysteriously already double banded? Ockam's Razor theory says not...

Do the Anejados bands go on at rolling or is every cigar removed from the tube after 10 years and bands placed on?

I read that the Anejados are rolled and boxed, and later they are taken out of the box, banded, and reboxed along with the "REVISADO" stamp added.

I agree with you though, like, where are they putting these things to store in "ideal conditions".  They can't even store regular production stuff correctly, I bet they found a bunch of left over sticks long forgotten and are now pushing these out at a premium.

Maybe they are returns that never sold in old tubes and they thought do this to make some money back

That's possible, in which case they're probably in worse condition than if they had never left the island...
