Popular Post Islandboy
It was a very memorable CoRo that was my first CC, abruptly turning my sophomoric infatuation with cigars on its head. I’ve since worked my way pretty quickly through a young box, realizing CoRo, like all Cohibas, require time to shine. So this stick is only the third core sample from one of 2 boxes I’ve set aside, hoping to experience the magic of that first Cuban. My previous sampling from this box at least a year ago, met with some disappointment. Cold aroma is beautiful, very rich notes of fine leather and barnyard. There’s really nothing that compares to the aroma of a Cohiba. I’m pairing this with a salted rim glass of Margarita. And the Eagles “On the Border”. Cold draw is perfect, and the band has noticeably loosened its grip. First puffs are rich with lemongrass and Cuban twang. The citrus punch is almost a bit much, but takes me right back to my first experience. Very full flavored, a noticeable change from a year ago. First third is quite rich, and a bit raw. All the ingredients of a fine cigar are there. But the citrus element I love is a bit strong, out of balance even. A Good Day in Hell comes on, my favorite song of the album. The raw guitar work, and tale of the thrills of living on the edge match the intensity of flavors perfectly. A few more years to mature should be good, I think. As I enter the half way point, flavors begin to meld and balance. The citrus twang softens slightly. A truffle-like savory note emerges, offset wonderfully by elements of vanilla and honey. But a rawness remains. I switch to scotch, and my favorite work from the Eagles- Desperado. In my opinion, the first real sign of the musical refinement to come from them, but still retaining the raw sound of their early work. Much like the cigar. The final third sees a bit more smoothness of the same rich flavors, and ends with nubbing the cigar to the sounds of “Certain Kind of Fool”, another fine example of raw Eagles. I cringe a bit at the irony of Glenn Frey singing the words “Four men ride out and only 3 ride back”. Very pleased with the progression of this box, should really shine in a few more years. Overall, a classy experience. 90 points. Cheers!

Thirds
Nice review! I, too, enjoy the music pairings. It sets the stage for the smoke. Also encourages me to let this recently acquired box of robustos rest much longer.
