Colt45 Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Construction: Uniform feel, firm, light in hand - nice. Wrapper: Colorado in shade, smooth, almost silky to the touch. Light, uniform sheen of oil. Pre-Light Aroma / Draw / Taste: Pure, heavy barnyard aroma. Lean taste of tobacco and light milk chocolate. Draw / Burn / Smoke Volume: Great draw, clouds of smoke. Early burn wonky, but evened out nicely on it's own. Taste: Acrid cardboard. Ditched by mid point as it was not worth the time or effort.... 4 4
Hollywood Ninja Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Hopefully not all of them! First one from this box?
BeerPimp Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Wow that did not end I expected. Hopefully the rest of the box is better. I am trying to decide which cigar to review for the Robusto weekend review. It is down to a Coro and PSD4.
Auspaul Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 That is very disappointing was expecting wonderful flavour looks beautiful how deceiving looks can be
Colt45 Posted June 2, 2019 Author Posted June 2, 2019 I'm roughly halfway through this box, having smoked the first about ten years ago. I recall it being pretty good and showing promise - which the subsequent samples did not live up to - this one probably being the worst. I've smoked some fantastic Cohiba Robusto - for me the greatness was in the smoothness and balance, the wonderful but subtle flavor. Perhaps more than anything, the sense of body and richness without any sharp edges or sense of strength. For lack of better terms, a light pound cake or shortcake. This box has been nothing of the sort. Much darker and relatively stronger, comparatively vapid in flavor, and much more stringy / porous in body. I don't really believe in cigar alchemy, so I think these are what they are. 1
Islandboy Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Wow...not the happy ending I expected. Thanks for sharing.
SigmundChurchill Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I have always found Cohiba Robustos to be the most inconsistent in the whole Cohiba lineup. When they are good, they are REALLY good, but a lot of boxes were just ok, and some, blah. Oddly though, the boxes I have had from recent years seem to be a lot more consistent than in the past.
El Hoze Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Ugh, what a bummer! I recently grabbed the two box deal of DIC 18 CoRo’s from the 24:24 as we just welcomed our first child in December and thought they’d prove handy over the years as a smoke to enjoy around his various milestones with family & friends. Hopefully the rest of your box gives you more enjoyment. Personally, CoRo’s have never been one of my absolute favorites but I consider it a bit of a benchmark cigar.
