Wilzc Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 So am at an Airport in Malaysia. Browsing the cigars to kill time. Scoffing at their insane prices l... AUS 120 for a 3 pack of Partagas SD4 Then... Lo and behold .... Amidst the Montys and the Davidoffs and the RyJ's... A single... Lone box of Liga9 sampler!!! At 100AUD it's quite a bargain! Now I'm just curious if the cigars are going to smoke well because this is a large air conditioned terminal.... And the cigars are ALL NOT HUMIDIFIED! They are kept in a sort of commercial wrapper. And the cigars probably will have individual cellos inside the box but.... How long will these hold fresh for? Anyone with experience buying airport cigars that are completely not humidified but stored in factory shrink wraps? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Man D'olin Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Got a R Y J #2 tubos 5 pack in Hong Kong International last year, to get rid of my remaining foreign money. Smoked great.
MrGlass Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I'm kind of surprised that they are out in the open. I have been through the Kuala Lumpur airport many times and from memory the cigars were always kept in walk-in humidors. That being said, the conditions inside the humidors weren't necessarily great and I have had mixed results with cigars picked up from there. But at 100AUD it's probably worth the gamble if you want to try them, especially if you are looking at blowing your left over local currency.
Andy04 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 There is a cigar specific shop at KLIA inside the international departure area that is far better priced and has a large selection. This may be a dumb question, but is there any reason why cigars should be in a humidor in Malaysia when the average humidity is around 85%?
Wilzc Posted September 8, 2017 Author Posted September 8, 2017 Airconditioning. My glasstop humidor if kept in an airconditioned room drops to 55%... As the seals are imperfect and humidity creeps out of it. Malaysia is around 80-85% RH in the wee mornings, 70% in the arvo and 75% at sundown. In an airconditioned situation RH can drop to 40%Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Akela3rd Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Surely you'd just take them home and leave them for month or two to adjust to your humidor conditions before sparking up. It's not like they've been there for years and even then they could be recovered with enough time. Thunder & Lightening '75-'15 2
BrightonCorgi Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Never seen cigars "out in the open" at an airport duty free.
Wilzc Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 I bit the bullet. Liga's are my fav NCs. Haha but naturally will be leaving them in the humidor for awhile just in case. Cannot wait. Salivating already Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
