Popular Post jsummers157 Posted August 24, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2015 This is from a PSP box from a 24:24 a few months back.On a work assignment up in Vermont for a couple of months. So, took the opportunity while enjoying some of the local scenery to fire up a great stick. The churchill is my favorite vitola. Although time doesn’t always permit, when I get the chance for a good, solid 2-hour smoke, this size is fantastic—long enough for some real complexities and evolution of flavors and just the perfect ring gauge for my tastes.First impression—as soon as I got the box, I was blown away by how great the wrappers on these were. Color is great (a dark colorado) but even more impressive is the feel of them. By far, the silkiest, smoothest wrappers I have ever seen and some of the most beautiful as well, with a great sheen that lets me know I’m in for a treat. A very pleasant first impression. The first few puffs are all typical Bolivar—hints of cacao, and some woodsy elements. But more than anything, I am getting that tanned leather taste/smell that makes Bolivars so enjoyable for me. As the first third progresses, the leather is rounded out quite nicely by some woodsy spices that remind me of the smells you would encounter walking through the woods on a crisp Autumn day. The draw is a tad on the firm side (which I often find with Bolivars) but in no way troublesome or enough to limit enjoyment. Really enjoyable. As I get into the second third, these same flavors are most present and develop into a really well-rounded stick. The draw is also opening up to just near perfect now and a nice, ample amount of velvety thick smoke comes through with every puff. One thing that is remarkable is the construction of this stick—the burn is flawless, requiring no touch-ups of any kind. Razor sharp burn that leads to a perfect grey ash. The chocolate notes are fading and the leather and spice are taking over.Towards the end of the second and into the final third, the strength really starts to kick in, which is a perfect compliment to the heavy flavors I am getting. I really hate when Bolivars are weak, as I really enjoy the extra kick with them, since it is such a nice compliment to the leather/wood/spice. A little bit of dark chocolate is present in this stage, rounding out a really complex evolution of flavors. As the cigar comes to an end, I am really wishing I had a few more inches to go (as is always the case when a cigar is as great as this one has been). Easily, a 92/93 cigar right now. I am excited to see how these progress and how much better they might be with a little age on them but with them currently this good, I’m not sure I’ll have the patience to find out. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it and thanks as always to the Czar crew for hand-picking yet another fantastic box! 9
Scrubber Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Looks like a great cigar. Really good review. I'm pretty sure that amazing view would make any cigar more enjoyable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DoubleDD Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 You are spot on. The reason I bought 4 boxes of these. These can go toe to toe with anything coming from Cuba today. 1
