Well, in your first statement you argue that I said that NCs are previously aged (I never said, or hinted to that) thereby agreeing with you (I do not), then you say that NCs are not aged rott.

So are they, or aren't they?

It seems we are from two nations divided by a common language.

First part:

"Like you said though - aged for three MORE years - so they've already been aged."

You wrote three MORE years - thus from what you had written, in order for something to be aged for three more years, it must have already been aged to a degree.

From what you have just written though it seems that I misunderstood you.

Second part:

The point I was making was that NCs aren't ROTT.

I didn't make myself clear - Non Cubans by the time they get to retailers are not right off the truck - they have been aged.

The two sentences are not contradictory at all.

I just don't make sense some times apparently. :-D

On another matter - if some NCs are sent to retailers the exact same way that cubans are, how come they don't have a sick period like cubans do?

I've definitely experienced sick periods in NC. Not so much with standard Fuente (excepting Anejo and Opus, of course), but with other manufacturers. I've definitely experienced it with popular sizes in the Padron lineup, and, if I remember right, with some DPG when they first hit it big and were being offered on CBid.

I've been lucky so far then. Long may it continue! ok.gif

So how long do NC manufacturers age their cigars before they sell them? Where can I find this information?

Many of the smaller "boutique" manufactirers affor access to their master blenders. You can ask them.

Most of the largest producers are not labelling their cigars with an age statement. This should tell you something.

Ah, I see. My mistake then!

The Opus has a "sick period" of about 3 years to my tastes. I am not that well versed in the NC world, but I would bet there are others that improve with time.

While I have only been smoking Habanos cigars for a bit over a decade now and really into them for about 7 or 8 years, I have never smoked a boxed cigar in a sick period. Not once. I have smoked many custom rolled cigars in sick periods though. I have also smoked many bad cigars that some may claim are in a "sick period", but I say they are just bad cigars.

If that's the case:

1) Why do NC's never seem to have the young bite that CC's do and

2) Why do NC's not seem to change over time, and decline in flavour so much more quickly than CC's

If your answer is that NC tobacco is inferior/different to CC tobacco, please explain.

Not sure what an "age statement" is. Can't remember seeing that with CC's either, unless you're talking about that generic statement on RG boxes. If you're referring to a box code, not sure

what that should be telling me.

I have smoked NCs with tannic overtones. I have smoked fresh CC smooth as cream. I guess you haven't.

Age statement such as that little blue, black, green or red stamp on the bottom of all Cuban cigar boxes, but oddly enough missing from most NC boxes. NC manufactirers copy EVERYTHING from the Cubans, why not the age statement?

As for what the box code should be telling you, it is presumably when the cigars are placed into the boxes. Of course with Cuban QC, nobody knows how consistent that is.

Cuban tobacco is different from all other tobacco in the world. Just like Dominican is different and so is Honduran, Brazilian, Jamaican, Chinese, Indian, American and so on.... The terrain is different, as is the environment and weather. Not to mention variations in cultivating techniques, drying and curing processes and water. Plus dont forget all the fun stuff sprayed onto the curing tobacco in various countries.

Strange how you have been around so long, yet don't know answers to these questions. I wonder if you are playing a ruse to try and trap me in a mistake so that you can have ammunition to ridicule me later on.

No biggie. I was just referring to a blanket statement you made earlier that came across as arrogant, and wondering if you had anything to support it.

Mash and I always put on a good show. Cost of admittance is some bourbon!

I've got some new goods ready in April. I'll shoot you an email in a couple of weeks.

No point in carrying on. It won't change anything.

Speaking of bourbon, had probably the best I've ever had last night. Called Angel's Envy.

Sorry to the OP to derail.

Thanks guys for responding to my question. I appreciate the ideas and thoughts by everyone. Always room for knowledge.

Got a couple box splits showing up this week. D4's and Rass. Both in my experience are going to need some heavy rest time to get happy. I'll try one of each after a couple weeks of adjusting from travel(coming from Hong Kong).
