Hi all

Was a beautiful evening here in Oz so thought I would try a Monte A I have had for a while.

I cut it, it had a perfect draw. First third was a mild chocolate and nothing else.

No change.

Boring all the way down. So boring I started looking at the box and noticed something weird.

monte4.jpg

Its hard to see from my crappy camera but the words are back to front like a mirror image. I wrote them in black with photoshop.

Is this how the monte A coffin logo is supposed to look? If not, what are the odds that it was a Cuban mistake? Or a fake?

Hope its a fake as I hear good things about the monte A and this was a major let down.

Thanks for any info.

Interesting. Have found out on another forum that the logo isn't supposed to be reversed.

Probably just a new guy learning the ropes tongue.png

The logo is burned in. That means the whole plate was created wrong. If it's a mistake it should be across the board. To get the word "Habana" to imprint properly you'd have to flip the letters horizontally and spell out " a n a b a H"

Well, I don't know anything about branding wood but perhaps the metal logo plate was put inside the press machine upside down.

By the time they noticed the mistake they were like, screw it.

I figured if a crook would go to the trouble of rolling a monte A and making a replica box they would have no reason to create a mirror image plate. It makes no sense. Creating a mirror image plate would be harder than making a plate the right way.

Its obviously a manufacturing glitch.

Upside down wouldn't give a mirror image...

It's not burned, it's pressed, sometimes with ink.

True. Either way, a plate is involved and it's not situated correctly. Unless all of them were made wrong. If that's so, then it's common and nothing to worry about. I'd like to see if other people have the same issue or not.

What do you know ! when buying a cigar we should act like Sherlock Holmes.

Were these bought on a tour in Havana by chance? a "official store" in a castle on the headland of the harbour????

I was there in April and noticed a lot of suspicious Monte A's, Genico maduros and CoRo's, when I mentioned it to the tour guide he and the store owner offered me a handful of cigars free of chargeblink.png I took the freebies but didn't buy any sticks until I got to the LCDH Melia Cohiba.

if the letters stand out,the plate was reversed,

They should be pressed inward into the wood........

I've never known them to come in coffins before. Is this new packaging?

A stamping machine operates vertically. Flipping the press plate upside down would indeed produce a mirror image.

unfortunately not. discontinued in 2010 boxes of 5 - much like the Hoyo Parties and the Cuaba Diademas

The Monte A coffin in front of me currently has a reversal as well. Unlike Stefan's... there is the Fleur de Lis in the middle:

Yes it would. Write your name on a piece of paper then turn the page over. Your name and the letters will be backwards. Its clearly a flipped over plate.

Mine is not mirrored and has the fleur de lis in the middle.

It was bought at a LCDH in Germany a few years ago.

Not if "upside down" is taken (like I did) with the meaning of "with the upper part where the lower part should be", specially if the plate is flat on one side, embossed on the other, which is generally the case.
