I’ve been smoking Cubans for years, and haven’t had much exposure to non-Cuban cigars (probably because it’s impossible to get anyone to ship them to my location).

Anyways, I would love to hear your recommendations on where to start. Robusto and Torpedo are my favorite format right now, with some of my favorites being PSD4, Upman #2, Monte #2 and Conni #1 .

Where do I start?

My first thought is to enjoy them for what they are, and try not to make comparisons to Havanas (if they tasted like Cubans, what would be the point?) I'm sure you'll get a number of recommendations.

Good luck and enjoy smile.png

Some fo the shops in jerusalem had NCs last time I was there. So did the shop at the Dan Tel-Aviv...nothing good though.

I am a big fan of Fuente 858 maduros if you can find them.

You can get everything here....well almost :-). Problem being the ridiculous high prices .

Thanks - and I totally hear you about comparing apples to oranges. I just figured some sort of reference point would be valuable.

Anything with a brown Tatuaje label on it is amazing. Tatuaje Black Lancero is awesome as well

Illusione cg:4 are excellent imo as are the winston churchill lancaster. I have full boxes of them both as opposed to just singles of of most other NCs for changes of pace, just top quality rich tobacco in both.

Tatuaje is a very good starting poing, brown label, PCR and 7th are my favorites. Fuente make some exellent cigars as well. some cheaper ones like the fuente queen b..and some higher end ones like the anejo 46 as mentioned...if you want to have your butt handed to you, go for the opus x line...

I enjoy a good Davidoff or Avo.

if you have time to hunt them down Elogio is a very good brand as well.

the above advice is good: do not compare Cuban no non-Cuban cigars. i enjoy both but for very different reasons. every country has its own personality. i dont really compare any of these to others.

its like comparing french wine to italian wine or austrailian wine. they are all wine. they are all different.

Padron 1964 and 1926 both in Naturals and Maduros, are relatively expensive, but offer amazing flavours consistently and reliably.

X2

Padrons had been my long time favorite brand.

Then after tasting my first CC, that's all I've smoked since.

However, just last week I took a 1926 40th Anniversary to the course, reminded me why I enjoyed Padrons so much.

If you can find liga privada I would buy those as well. They are very hard to locate in the U.S. because the production numbers are so small. But the flavor they have is outstanding IMHO.

Ashton vsg, opus x xxx, a Fuente chateaus are among my go to NCs

Oh and cabiguans are pretty good too

The Tatuaje line was Pepin's effort to emulate Partagas. His DPG blue label was to recreate the Siglo series. Of course, blends were tweaked for the "American palate."

Tatuaje is really nice if it's an introduction to cigars. I can't seem to enjoy them anymore. Way too watery and thin. I really like Arturo Fuentes Anejos, and EPCs.

Anything Illusione is amazing. Oliva Serie V, all varieties. Arturo Fuente Hemingway, Anejo and OpusX are all good. Viaje Reserva (both Oro and Platino). Any of the Padron 1926 or 1964. I could go on and on. Your best bet is to try a few, and go from there. Some very different flavor profiles.

Ya I'd agree with Ashton VSG.

Oliva Serie "O" are good too. Aliitle milder than the "V" in the same line.

For a Inexpensive smoke try Alec Bradley "the MAXX" good line.

Good luck!!

Don't laugh...the Cuesta-Rey Centro-Fino release from years back was an awesome smoke for a Non-C. Also Don Pepin Garcia/Pete Johnson release of Cabaiguan is another on-target smoke for a non-Cuban. Though a bit rougher, almost dirtier in flavor, nearly any Camacho, i.e. Diplomat, Coyolar, Triple Maduro, Select, etc. I like them for the Honduran power and taste they offer. All the other Tatuajes, Illusiones, and Arturo Fuentes have honorable mention. Yet to me there's NOTHING like a Padron 45th Family Anniversary and Oliva V Melanio series for a non-Habano! OOO LA LA!!! 2thumbs.gif

The EPC Short Run's are excellent. Really enjoyed the 2011 edition. Good call, mk!

Tat Brown- absolutely.

Padron 64 and FR might be worth a try. The 26 is great but might be a bit much.

My 3 go to NC's are consistently Padron 1964's Ashton AVG's and Oliva V's for a daily smoke...
