Knvb Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hey guys... looking for some input for my upcoming trip to Varadero next month. Been a cigar smoker for a few years and need to grab a few boxes to fill the humidor at home and looking for suggestions from the veterans on the board! I started off my first trip to cuba and first foray into cigars a few years ago with the obligatory Monte 4 addiction followed with the Partagas 4d and my trip last year really enjoyed the boxes of Hoyo epi 2 and Vegas Unicos i bought. This trip i'm looking at possibly picking up a box of Upmann 46 50 or Winstons but would love some suggestions. I cant break the bank so Behike's and 1966's are prob out of reach but welcome any and all suggestions! Cheers Cory Victoria Canada
maverickdrinker Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 best deal in cuba are discontinued cigars, ELs (best price you will get), LCDH releases, jars and BHKs.
Knvb Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 best deal in cuba are discontinued cigars, ELs (best price you will get), LCDH releases, jars and BHKs. Found it tough to find boxes of EL's last trip and the only jar i could find was a beautiful Partagas i'm not sure the actual size but found them a bit small would have prefered at least robusto size. Would you know where in Varadero might be best to find such gems? Cheers
maverickdrinker Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 there are 3 LCDHs in Varadero. ONe on 36th street, one at 63rd and one in the plaza americas. Good luck
mazolaman Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hi Cory, and welcome. If it were me, I would try to pick up some of the deleted cigars. Ie serie du connaiseur, any diplomaticos.... These would be worth aging for future smokes.
Nino Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Welcome to FoH ! I'd suggest the H.Upmann Half Coronas but reading that you prefer larger sizes : How 'bout the Choix Supreme by El Rey del Mundo ? A milder Robusto, little known but quite tasty. Or the RA Extra EL 2011, those were widely available in HAV ...
BatFastard Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Welcome Cory! Just got back from Varadero on Monday. Checked out the LCDH on 63rd... BHK's were not available at all even in singles. They had lots of Cohiba 1966. I bought a box of Mag 46's from 2011. They're aged selection was pretty scarce. I would definitely second Nino's suggestion for the HUpmann half corona (about $62 for a box) and great short smoke. I was able to try a couple while on vacation. Enjoy your trip, Jay from Surrey, BC
canadianbeaver Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hello and welcome! Smoked some Half coronas an the chilly porch last night and they were great. You can always smoke 2, back to back, so get 2 boxes! They would work great under a tree in the rain in Victoria LOL! I would second the ELRM Choix Supreme. I bought 2 yesterday and posted a pic and everyone said they were great. Lisa

MIKA27 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Welcome to FOH, hope you enjoy the forum and what the members have to offer.
maverickdrinker Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Are you referring to the monte gran reservas when you say monte 2s EL? If so, you will not find then any cheaper in Cuba. It's a good buy over there if you are into limited, collectible cigars.
Knvb Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 I'm not sure I just heard there was an el version of the monte 2 or edmundo just wondering overall how these limiteds compare to the regular line cigars
Knvb Posted May 13, 2012 Author Posted May 13, 2012 I'm not sure I just heard there was an el version of the monte 2 or edmundo just wondering overall how these limiteds compare to the regular line cigars What 'jars' might i be likely to find... Last year the P1 partagas was widely available and im kicking myself for not grabbing one.. .beautiful jar i was just dismayed at the vitola as i prefer to bring home more substantial cigars... 2 weeks til Cuba!
PoohBore Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 You should be able to get the Upmann noella glass jar. Why not get yourself into Havana for the day and search out the custom rollers ?
