brazoseagle Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Today, I rummaged through some of my vintage sticks that don't get a lot of action and decided to smoke a 2001 Saint Luis Rey Churchill. Wrapper has some veins, but still had a great sheen and smell too it. Smell - Pure mellow tobacco mixed with raisins and dried fruit. Pre - light draw - Great draw, I would say perfect even, and nothing but sweet pure raisins and tobacco on the lips. 1st /3rd - Great creamy smoke, not near as powerful as other SLR's I've had. I assume that's from the age mellowing out a bit. Figs, raisins, pure breed tobacco, spicy fruitcake. 2nd/3rd - Still a great creamy thick chewy smoke, still the dried fruit and tobacco, but now with hints of honey and sweet coffee. - Really impressive! Very mellow, but oddly still strong at the same time. The smell of the smoke was intoxicating. Final/3rd - Fruits dissipated, and the honey and coffee came to take center stage. I found myself continually waiving in the smoke in my nose, I couldn't get enough! It was a very unique and pleasant sweet but strong smoke. I don't think I have ever smelled such a pleasant smoke come off of a cigar in a long time, if ever. It was a very enjoyable 1 hr. 45 min. smoke. Left me wanting to smoke and smell more. Very enjoyable, wonderful aged taste. 94/100
JohnLeupp Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Great review. Looks awesome. I am a big fan of their DC and Serie A. I bought a box of Churchills last year (00), and my first attempt fell flat, so this is very encouraging. Going to try dry boxing them next time. Cheers, jL
