Hi all

I wasn't going to post this but in light of the Holiday season I thought it apt .

All this happened last week Tues. the 22.11.11

My day started pretty much as any normal work day up at 4.15 am and in the car at 5.15am ,turned the key and nothing ,flat battery had to join the RAC (Royal automobile Club ).

The guy showed up in about 15 min which i thought was good ,gave me a quote on a new battery ,and gave me a jump start to get me to work ,got a new battery from a business next door and saved $50.00 ,I was feeling pretty pleased with myself despite having shelled out $200.00 + to join ,RAC

then later in the afternoon ,I noticed that i had missed heaps of messages on my phone (I work in a very noisy environment so don't always hear my phone ).

The messages were from my wife to ring her urgently ,my wife is a Business Development Manager and has to trips to the country area of W. A .she had headed out that morning and was due back that night ,she used to drive there and stay overnight ,and come back next day ,this time she decided to do the trip in one day .

I rang her and she told me that she had rolled the car :o:(

She said that she had just closed her eyes for a second and then got onto the soft shoulder on the roads edge got a tank slapper going and then preceded to leave the road at approx. 100 kph ,into the bush through the trees and rolled it ,she told me she thought she was going to die ,she closed her eyes and waited for the inevitable stop (accompanied by the hurt )

when she had stopped she was left hanging in the car ,and her first thought was FIRE,turned off the engine ,and checked her phone ,no coverage ( WA is a big state )

leant on her horn, to attract attention as nobody had seen her leave the road ,but she had travelled so far from the road that she wasn't visible from it ,she tried to open door which was now above her but it would not open ,so she had to use her shoe to smash the windscreen which was already damaged to climb free of the wreckage, and struggle back to the road to flag someone down ,which she did and the police and Ambulance attended,Paramedics wanted her to stay in hospital overnight ,but my wife said she was all right ,the truck driver very kindly offered to drive her home about 250 km's,and the Police gave her a $100.00 infringement notice :cowpoop:

She is one tough lady ,very bruised and battered ,but incredibly lucky ,one day off work and then back to work WTF,she has a very good work acumen ,not like me :D

She was incredibly lucky and has learnt a very valuable lesson, which i think is very relevant this holiday season

DO NOT DRIVE TIRED IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW GOOD A DRIVER YOU THINK YOU ARE ONCE YOU REALISE FATIGUE IS TAKING HOLD IT CAN USUALLY BE TO LATE

I consider my self one very lucky man ,but not as lucky as my wife

Thank you for reading and stay safe this season and remember that a life or loved one can be taken from you in a heart beat

thank god it ended well, a timely reminder though. my aunt's mother was killed in a car crash last year, and this year her brother almost died (still in hosp), both times the other car crossed the centre line and all its passengers died...

P.S New Forrester on the way her company bought Forresters / Subaru's for the simple reason that at the time they were the only car in Aust with a 5 star Ancap safety rating ,suffice to say I am impressed

Good to her she suffered no injury, especially after leaving the road @ 100kph. A very good reminder for all to stay safe during the crazy season.

Pleased to hear she's ok, and she managed to flag someone down out in the wilds.

Will you have to buy her a new pair of shoes now that she broke the windscreen with her old pair?(just thinking what my own wife would say)! :lol3:

Man, that's scary. Glad to hear your wife is okay. That's what really matters.

glad that your wife escaped serious injury, she went through scarey time, she must be one tough woman.

Wow, very scary, can't imagine how I'd react if my wife called me and told me all that.

Back to work after only a day... your wife is hardcore!

Glad your wife is ok Steve. Unfortunately a mate fell asleep at the wheel driving back from a country visit, a couple of years ago, and he sadly passed away.

Good effort by the wife getting back to work after a day, I would have milked that for at least a week!

Scary event, but glad to hear that your wife is okay. I gotta say, I'm often guilty of driving when tired, and this is a good reminder to me of the hazards of doing so...not just for myself and my family, but to others on the road. Thanks for sharing.

Once again thank you all for your comments

She keeps me in line and I would not have it any other way and I am thankful

Glad that both of you are OK.I can share a similar story. On Feb.4th 1987 I returned home from work and found the house in the dark.Nothing to worry yet as my wife had a 35km commute. What was worrysome is that we had a bad icerain that day.Still nothing to worry until the phone rang and on the other end was a policeofficer from the Ontario Provincial Police to tell me that my wife was in an accident, that she is Ok and I should come to the station to pick her up.So, of I went to drive to the next town to pick her up.This is where I learned that she rolled her car on the icecovered road. She landed upside down off the road in deep snow but due to the deep snow couldn't get out.Lucky for her the where houses nearby(countryside).People from those houses called 911 and Police and Ambulance arrived and the pulled her out of the car.To everybodies amazement she was ok,not even a single scratch, just scared. What propably saved her was that she drove a big car at that time,it was an Oldsmobil Nintyeight Regency.Oh yeah BTW that day was also my birthday.A birthday I'll never forget.
